I am looking to get another oil cooler, for the SE, the one I have was overtighten, and cracked the cooler,, my question is can I use an oil cooler from a 83 or prior,,,,, and can I use one from a second gen, and if yes are they direct fits, if not what would be neede to make them work....... I also saw this oil cooler on ebay is this rite for my SE,,, I have searched, but I never have any luck ,, So I apologize ahead of time if there is a nother post, I just could not find it

I have given up on the stock cooler. Mine was so damaged when I bought the vehicle.
I went with this one...

Just bought it, I'll keep you posted on how it went... It's the same one you have linked only cheaper... We shall see... 13 rows has to be better than stock. Going to fab up my own hangers and use poly mounts to help with vibration.

You can also have the cracks tig welded. The local bike shop charges me $15 when I bring a cooler with a cracked bung in. Of course I've cleaned and grooved the crack first.
If you choose to go with a 2nd gen cooler, there is a 'How To' in my sig line. You will also need the fittings from the hoses since they are different than the 1st gens.

I received the cooler I mentioned above. Very nicely done, well constructed. Came in a day ahead of schedule, 3 days and it was here. Nice...
I'll keep you posted on the progress...

We finally got around to getting this done.
The oil cooler that I pictured above is mounted and working. I also had the local oreilly's make me new lines. Thank goodness for that, since the oil lines that were on there were flaking off rubber pieces internally - very bad...
The oil cooler is outstanding and keeps the temp where it should be and the oil pressure is slightly above stock levels based on the manual and above all NO MORE OIL LEAKS! NONE!
So for <100 bucks I replaced the stock SE one and replaced the old oil lines...
Pictures to come tomorrow as I have to fix my digital camera...

what did you do with the oil temp regulator that is built into the factory oil cooler for cold startups? How is the oil pressure when you first start it up cold if you didn't use the oil temp regulator? I've seen some nice oil cooler setups but was worried about that regulator. Just curious.

Nothing.
Mine had a cooler and two lines coming from it that hooked into the block. Inlet and Outlet.
That is all that I had to replace. Frankly not sure what you are talking about....

love the braaaap
In the stock cooler there is a thermally activated regulator that kinda limits the amount of flow through the cooler untill the oil warms up I think. Helps the engine warm up faster.

The stock one that was on there didn't work then. However, the girl that drove this thing before we got it apparently hit everything with the cooler since when we removed it in was in a shape of ~ and leaked from both ends and top and bottom. Maybe she used it like a curb feeler?
However, at startup for the morning now - we see her oil pressure to be short of 60.
Take a look at the photos:
