Angry Dies without choke pulled

My 85 rx7 will only start with the manual choke pulled and will not idle without it.
Once the engine warms up and the throttle automatically shuts off, the engine dies.

Several years ago the same thing happened and I replaced something but dont remember what it was.

Help Please

Sounds like a vac leak. Check your vac hoses for slight cracks. Do you have carb or injected 85?

Could be vac leak, idle speed or mixture adjustment, ignition, timing.

How does a carb get cracked though??? Its made of pretty thick metal. Could be right though. If you find out that one part is cracked let me know as I have multiple carbs in need of rebuild and would be happy to supply you with the part needed.

Smile Thanks

Thanks for the responses. i will go through and check the hoses for leaks. I took it to a mechanic and he told me a new carb but after my experience of fixing this same problem years ago, it has to be something simple. I remember the guys at the parts store selling me some kind of sensor that i replaced but for the life of me I cant figure out what it was called

Do you know how to use a can of carb cleaner to find a vacuum leak?

all you have to do it go buy a spray can of carb cleaner ... start spraying everywhere around the carb, and vacumm lines, if you hear the engine reving up more while spraying somewhere, that would mean that the carb cleaner is going down the carb from somewhere in that area .. from there all you do is pray bit by it to find out where exactly ...

but before you do that ... i would check your idle adjust screw ... all that you will require for that is a long flathead screw drivers, the idle adjust scres is located inderneath the choke cable by about 5 cm ... it has a + sign grooves on there ... turn it to the right by about a turn or two ... if your engine idles at about 1500rpm then it would be from that.
