AR It died :(

Ok I was driving home, about half way there it starts acting up, so i push the clutch in because when i gave it gas it just wouldnt do anything.. i check gauges saw oil pressure at zero..thought well the motors dieing it wont read right. as soon as i push clutch in i feel the motor just stop abruptly...(not good i know)...i get out of car pop the hood(first)...i see oil everywhere....I installed an remote oil filter setup, and aftermarket oil cooler... i see that the oil filter is laying on the dust pan below radiator...instinct told me go try to start it...i hear click. motors locked, starved from oil loss....Now here the fun part...ITS ONLY GOT 1500 MILES ON IT, IT A BRAND NEW 12A STREETPORTED FROM ATKINS ROTARY....IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO....? ARE THE HOUSINGS STILL GOOD? COULD I SELL THEM, CUZ I SPENT 2.5k ON IT..

Damn that sucks bad.
Id say you tear it down and see what is still usable. Depending on how far you were going the housings could be warped.

1. cry
2. let it go ... (you're not going to make $2500 back, sorry)
3. decide if you're going to get back on the horse (as they say) or not ....
4. if you do decide to stick with it, pay more attention to vital parts and gauges.

the only way you're going to know anything is by pulling it apart. decide what you need afterwards.

just curious, why weren't you running the oil filter in the stock location?

another good reason NOT to install a remote oil filter and aftermarket oil cooler.. ONLY use aMazda brand RX-7 oil cooler..either the beehive or the front mount from 81-82 or the SE oil cooler from 84-84 and thats it bar none! the oil filter is put on top of the rear iron for a reason..that and its wicked easy to get to.. at any rate, i'm sure everything but the eccentric shaft and rotor bearings are salvageable. all you need is a new soft seal kit, gaskets, rotor bearings, eccentric shaft, and pilot bearing and you can rebuild the thing..provided it didn't overheat or score the housings or irons...which would've ruined the apex and side seals and then you'd be out everything you paid basically.

Without oil, a rotary can die before transferring enough heat to the water jacket to spike the temp guage.

E-shaft and rotor & bearings NEED oil to transfer heat out of the core of the motor, since there's almost no mechanical contact between the rotating assembly and the housings, but huge thermal transfer area between the combustion face and the actual burning fuel.

That's why I have both oil pressure AND oil termperature guages, in addition to the water temp guage, and the low oil idiot light.

My condolences for your loss. Hopefully, most of your engine will be salvageable.

I have a question for this post. If you run 2 cycle engine oil with your gas and this would have happened with oil loss would the car have not died because there would be oil in the gas? Or would it be blown any ways? I have a friend who said he uses just 2 cycle engine oil with the gas only and he disconnected his oil pump chain. Is this possible or is he blowing smoke?

Oil in the gas only provides surface lubrication for the seals and housing walls. Without internal oil lubrication, the engine will still fail just like this. Oil pressure is required to keep the bearings floated, as well as for heat transfer. metal-to-metal bearing contact will wreck an engine under load in very short order.

Your friend is is full of it; go smack him in the forehead and tell him so.

it never over heated i live 3 miles away and i was only home, my car had barely warmed up... I almost sent the damn thing to the crusher...but its my fault... i just did a trans swap in it too, and just put on new rear brake calipers, pads, and rotors...as well i have the holley carb setup, and a rb header....and i bought a new driveshaft from mazdatrix....guess i could start selling everything or figure out how to rebuild the engine, or find another one to put in it...... R.I.P my 1985 Mazda Rx-7 GSL ....( and i was going to get earlier style oil filter mount on it...i hated the beehive....but i did really look for one...
