Wonder what's wrong with this engine
Why won't the rear rotor come off?

This is the first engine I rebuilt about 7 years ago. 13B 4port, 12A irons SE housings and internals. I ran it in one of my RX-4s for 3+ years. Then put it in my Cosmo (no oil pressure gauge). It ran great for a year until one day, while running at 70 mph, it slowed to a stop. Never to turn again.

The bearing/bushing from inside the rear stationary gear is fused to the E shaft. Wacky is right. No oil showed on the dip stick after it died. Not sure how I let that happen. I never noticed any obvious oil leaks and I've run several Rx's low on oil before catching it. The rear housing looks like it's ok. We'll see when I take some measurements. The temperature never showed hot, but the gauge is 1976 vintage. I was interested to find that the front thrust bearings (new when I rebuilt it) appear to be in perfect condition. I'll see what the rest of the parts look like tomorrow, when I figure out how to get it apart. The rear rotor won't slide over the fused bearing.
I just now saw this post. Your Cosmo is the same color as mine.
Take a dremel with a cutting disc or a die grinder and cut the bearing off. Maybe the rotor is still good? I was able to harvest one rotor out of a Hayes engine that spun a front bearing due to oil starvation from a pickup tube that fell off the engine. It was just laying in the pan when I pulled it.
The rotor bearing is a bit worn but at least the rotor is salvageable.

Came off with a coal chisel and a few taps. came apart at the "puzzle splice". Rear rotor and both housings look OK. Front rotor, middle housing and E shaft are gone.
Here's the Bearing and front rotor lobe.

Like that smooth port job? It was my first attempt. Not pretty, but worked fine.

Oh well I got 5 years and around 50k miles from 4 old engines. Cost me around $700 with the new soft seals and I learned how to rebuild a rotary. Could have used that knowledge back when I bought my new RX-3 in 73 and proceeded to ruin 3 engines in 5 years.
BTW more pics of the cars are here.

Check this thread for my wonderful experience with an oil starved engine. https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/another-one-bites-hayes-dust-658456/

Yeah, the pictures I've seen of Wacky's 3s make me miss the Rx-3s I've had. No need for pity, I have a couple FBs, 2) RX-4s and the Cosmo now. Needless to say I have very little money left for anything other than Mazda parts.
i had a front stationary gear bearing seize to my Eshaft with only 130 miles on the motor...i think something happened with my oil pump. It was a blessing in diguise though i was able to do the $190 RX8 eshaft instead of the almost $500 stock one
