Diagnosis of Warning Lights
Hello - I have a 1979 RX-7. I live in the Seattle area and I'm getting ready for the Summer season of driving. I started up my car and noticed that three warning lights came on simultaneously as follows:
Generator
Oil
Coolant
I stopped the car and checked fluid levels. The oil was low - not quite a quart low. So I added oil to the full level. I checked the coolant, and it was full. Someone suggested to me to check the generator belt. I discovered the belt was loose. So I adjusted it, and now the generator is turning with the engine running.
So - I took the car out for a spin and the same three warning lights were present. I also noticed the tachometer was showing 5,800 RPM's, and it stayed there even though the car was idling. The car was working properly except I noticed that when I put on the turn signals, the tachometer needle would flickering back and forth. It would stop flickering once I turned off the turn signal. The tachometer did move slightly to about 4,500 RPM's, but it would stay there regardless of the car speed.
Have any of you experienced this particular problem?
Do you have any suggestions or can you guide on what the issue is and how to resolve it.
I would be grateful if you can help.
Thanks,
Scott

Sounds like the cluster is staying in what I'll call "volt" mode. The tach will display voltage when the key is first tuned on. Could be a faulty ignition switch that needs cleaning.
