Cutting down the oil filler tube?

K so the oil filler tube is kinda getting in the way of some of my plans. If I cut it up to something like 2" long or something like that, is it going to hurt anything?

Nope-
stating the obvious tho that you'll want to either remove it or plug the hole do metal bits don't fall into pan

AND
-if you cut the top the cap won't fit
-if you cut the bottom, it won't go back into block

-and you'll want to keep the breather pipe on the side of the neck...

Cut a section out of the middle and use those great welding skills of your's to weld it back together. I can probably come up with a spare one. PM me the measurements from the top of the keg to the top lip of the tube w/o the cap and I'll cut one down for you. Have you thought about using a TII oil fill tube? They have 2 90* bends in them to clear the top mount intercooler.

Or tell Billy what you're looking for. He'll do one up for you in shiney chrome I bet.

Seriously, I've thought about removing it altogether. What do we need it for, other than that one vacuum port mounted on the side of it?

Pre beehive engines oil fill tube are about 2 inches shorter. Just get one from an older engine.

I made mine I used a billet oil filler neck off one of my old vw engines it cost about $15 then I turned the od down to fit in the motor. It looks nice and was cheap. I did a thread on it but it is beyond my computer knowledge how to attach the link. Just search the threads I posted or I will but some pics up if I can find them

I'd like to make it as short as possible and have a nipple sticking ontop turning 90 degrees So i'll just take it off and get it cut and welded.

the turbo engines have a short little tube that ends in a flange, and then they have another that bends out of the way.

anyone know why the 3rd gens have a baffle in the tube? Is this something due to turbocharging ? Will supercharging later on have any effects on this?

i think they are trying to keep oil out of the pcv/breather system. it might be more of an emissions thing than anything else, t2 doesnt have anything fancy.

Wonder if we could just remove the tube and replace it with a suitable cap. Put a nipple on the cap for the pcv valve or whatever, and be done with it....

Just get a rubber expension plug from the hardware store for capping pipes when they pressure test plumbing.

You can find a big AN fitting to thread in there. Then put an AN cap on it. All nice zinc anodized. But you need a big friggin wrench to take it off!!!

Oil? In the engine? What for?

I'm not sure I understand the question. To put oil in, take the cap off and pour it in, then replace cap. Right?

Do we really need a nipple in there for crank case vent? Off the center iron there's another nipple right behind the oil filler tube, can't we just use that? Or is that different than using the one off the filler tube?
