Cruise Control and Secondaries

Hi all..

So I recently purchased an 85 GSL. Ran like crap. Installed a rebuilt NIKKI carb. Runs great for the most part. A couple of questions..

1. My cruise control doesn't work. EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE CAR WORKS. I contacted the previous owner to see if the cruise worked for him. He said it did but couldn't remember the last time he used it. So, with that said, I am obviously trying to figure out if I didn't hook something up correctly when I replaced the carb. The carb is an older model carb. I hooked up the vacuum line for the cruise as pictured below. Are there more vacuum lines that I missed that would cause the cruise not to work? I do get a light on the button when cruise is selected.

2. Like I said the car runs great. Question: Is there any way to have the secondaries kick in at a lower RPM? Right now, the secondaries kick in around 4000 to 4500 rpms and I have the pedal on the floor until it gets there. This certainly is no big deal but if it is possible I would like to try it.

Thanks for any/all assistance!!!! Mike

The Cruise Control system on these cars (FB) aren't particularly robust. Its a simple system based on intake vacuum to help with speed correction, with a backup speed sensor at the speedometer, and as such if you lose the vacuum source, your diaphragm valve canister at the passenger firewall won't be able to pull the parallel throttle cable to accelerate or hold the engine speed. This results in the CC system turned on, but won't activate to hold a set speed, nor correct with speed change requests from the driver, per the CC module on the stalk.

There's a CC computer controller mounted behind the drivers seat inside the storage bin and is accessible by removing the bin lid and liner. Check that out and lok for corrosion on the outside, as the bins as a location that often see and hold humidity, adding to the risk of rust and water damage. Finding parts to replace will be difficult and expensive, as most drivers ripped these systems out to save weight and threw them in the trash. Damn shame, if you want your CC to work as designed. When it worked, it worked really well in my experience. I miss having a working system on longer drives,

Thanks so much...!!!!!! I do have the ONE vacuum line hooked up to the cannister on the passenger side firewall...

So with that, I did remove all of the cables off the carb when I swapped them. As the previous owner said it worked for him, I am focusing on what I may/probably screwed up during the swap. I made no adjustments (that I am aware of) to the cables. Is it possible I screwed something up?

Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR WISDOM!!! This RX7 thing is new to me and I am having a riot with it, (except for that 4th nut on the carb, of which someone on here had posted a "self-modified" combination wrench to deal with it, so I did the same and I'll be darned if that wasn't the answer!!). I will take a peek at the CC computer as you have suggested...nothing to lose there... :0)

Mike

the CC uses switches on the brake and clutch too, so if those aren't working it won't set
