Ok so the 1985 FSM says this ( 32 - 43 ft pound)
Where are you guys getting that torque spec for the header , a link would be helpfull. Racing Beat headers say 25 ft pound . I have a 12 A engine with a 85 Exhaust header . I checked the torque today and they were all 20 pounds sans one which turned a bit and then clicked. 20 pounds is nothing but I don't want to strip anything.

This made me look it up!
There's typo in my 1982 printed FSM. In the engine assembly section 1-E-20:
44-59 N-m and 32-43 ft-lb, like the prev post, and that's correct based on the N-m being consistent.
In the T-7 technical section at the back it shows:
44-59 N-m and 23-43 ft-lb.

There is a typo on the page before too , says " 12B engine" . Mazda was tripping.
Good to know the right specs now. I was just iffy since the thermal reactor numbers were higher.

The shop manual I got the torque specifications from is a Mazda Workshop Manual for the 1985 Mazda RX7 that I've had for close to thirty years.
Section for torque values in back of manual
Torque vales in the assembling engine section

I'm confused now 😂 .
Just to be safe I will go to 25 pounds , then to 30 if the leak persist since that falls within the normal range of all our weird numbers.

For the record, I have never used a torque wrench on my exhaust manifold. I've probably removed and installed it 20 times...
You're over-thinking this.

I haven't and considering it bolts in to an aluminum block the last thing I want is a broken stud or stripped thread when my finances are so tight . I normally just tighten till it's snug to be honest.

If a header gets loose the gasket gets exposed to heat and gets blown out. Im trying to figure out if its just loose or if I need a replacement gasket , it the surface isn't flat then we have bigger issues. Either way it needs to come off and get torqued.
