Counter wight question

Just picked me up a 12a for my 79 the engine is. A 83 and my tranny is a 79 auto ca i use the 79s counter wight or do i have to find a 83? Also does anyone know are all engine mounts the same 12a wise?

Hey Shane! The motor mounts should be the same. As for the counterweight I think they are all matched to the other rotating pieces (rotors and e-shaft) that make up the "rotating assembly" so that they're all balanced. Did the 83 not come with a counterweight? If not, search the forum for rotating assembly and balance and see what you dig up. I know that Ray in GA has a build thread that goes into some detail about counterweights. I know that rotors are stamped and you want them matched up closely, and that the counterweight is part of the rotating assembly and you want it all balanced. Check that thread out.

You can probably get away with using the 79 counter weight but getting a matching one is better.

Hmmm. Ya i think ill find one ijust need a rear 83 auto wight right?

does the motor have the beehive oil cooler? if it does, its a late 83 which means you can use a 12A counterweight from 84/85 also.. all 12A engine mounts are the same from 79-85

Yes a beehive it has so now just gota find me a counter weight and ci should e good to go

I think what you are talking about is the flywheel, not the counterweight in the front of the engine.
