corrosion!
i was checking my hatch light and followed the line to the rear of the drivers side storage bin. then i saw it!!! OH NO!!! no rust on the wells, thank god but i got corrosion on the connector that goes to the rear connecting the tail lights, wiper, hatch light etc...this is where i found the hatch light line corroded and broken off.
does anyone know where i can find a similar connector so i can cut the lines, take out the corroded connector and reconnect to a new connector? also, is there a way this can be avoided in the future?
also there is a metal box under the amp bolted to the body...what is it? thats got rust on the cover, i'm going to take it out and clean it up.
let me know if you guys want a picture to see what i'm talking about
THANKS!

No, just make sure that you cover them well and SOIDER THEM ! ! ! The best connection. Also use some DIELECTRIC GREASE to prevent any further corrosion.
This stuff is used for electrical connections that may get wet and keep the water out. So while your in there put it on anything else that might get exposed.
You probably got that from having something in the storage bin and spilling, or theres water comming in through there somewhere but being that you didn't find any rust or corrosion anywhere else then I would go with my first guess.
Also theres stuff to remove rust that you can get at most automotive stores ie. Pep Boys, Auto Zone, Kragen, called Naval Jelly. I've heard that its pretty strong stuff.
Well Good Luck

Go to a real electronic supply store IE not radio shack, they will have numerous options for what seem like unique connectors. There are butt connectors with solder already in them that you heat up for this. Also cover the new solder joint with heat shrink not tape or something that is not sealed, this way no water will get to the connection to start the corrosion.
i trimmed the line, twisted and taped it until i go to the store and get shrink wrap. there are no other electronic stores around here
but at least the light works now
