Question Yikes the corrosion, what can you do?

So I went on a four week vacation, came back and opened my hood and blam, I notice that corrosion has taken hold of all my metal componants like I've never seen before, brake lines, boltheads, if it's not painted it's corroding. Can anyone suggest what engine cleaning products or coatings I could use to help stem the tide of all this corrosiveness, I know living on the west coast by the beach doesnt help, one mechanic suggest spraying everything with WD-40, seems extreme and won't that really mess up the rubber parts? Another suggested spraying everything with silicone spray. Any suggestions????

Move away from the salty sea air. That is your only real solution to the problem.

How about a electronic rust control unit?
It sends a pulse through the body at interals to prevent oxidation.

As Chameleon said, buy an electronic rust control unit.

I live on Guam, and haven't had any corrosion since I put one in 2 years ago.

The car has been outdoors 24/7 since I picked it up, Sept 11 2001. It has been outdoors through 2 Typhoons and 1 Super Typhoon.

Don't use WD40. It evaporates. There are spray on products for this, but they look awful. The electronic device is a good solution. Silicone spray is ok, but you will have to repeat it at least once every few months. It's good for the rubber parts, BTW.

Depending on how bored you are.... you can clean the bolts and such and then apply clear nail polish to the unpainted areas. I do this on alot of old/new motorcycles out here in Hawaii and haven't had problems stemming from the nail polish. And I HAVE noticed less corrosion on the machines I work/worked on. Just a thought and EXTREMELY time consuming. I share your pain!!!

living on the coast as well, i've found the best corrosion products are marine products, there is one is particular i've had good success with, but the name escapes me at the moment.

I'm also curious about this electronic rust thingy, sounds interesting
