Unhappy Coolant leak! Help!

I'm losing coolant when the engine is running. It pools up under the carb. I don't think the water pump is leaking. I've checked as many of the coolant pipes and have found no leaks. I did a search earlier and read about a certain O-ring but there was lots of conflicting information. Here are some pics of the coolant under the carb--help my baby!

edit: having trouble putting pics up...

don't know what u mean by conflicting information. these O-rings r between the intake and block, sealing the coolant passage from the rotor housing thru the stock intake.

how much is present and how long does it tke to get to the level you describe? would you consider your water neck is leaking and running down onto your engine?

rxtasy3: they talked about an o-ring in the intake manifold--not the ones between the housing (i think).
mazdaverx713b: what's my water neck? is that what the thermostat is housed in? that is not leaking...

I am still trying to post pics...

what u read had to have been worded wrong since the only O rings related to the intake r the two between the intake and block.

I don't think anything is coming out from the water neck.
Any other suggestions?

perhaps your subzero starting assist motor is running erratically and the hose connecting to the carb is split, causing the mix, which is 90% antifreeze and 10% water, to leak onto the engine...

If you were to unbolt your intake manifold from your engine "keg", you'd see the two O-rings that they're talking about. They do go bad and you've got a lot of work ahead of you. DON'T USE BLOCK SEALANT TO TRY TO STOP THE LEAKING!

Have fun...

It's not a lot of work... disconnect lines from carb (remember where they all go), unbolt intake, replace rings, replace gasket, bolt back on, connect lines. Watch for leaks. Have a beer once confirmed you have no leaks anymore. Meh.

well if you have $ you can take it to a shop. Somehow I'm assuming you're not particularly swimming in cash.

Doesn't take much for tools. 12mm wrench to remove carb. 12mm sockets to remove manifold. Gasket removing tool of choice. o-rings + gasket should be less than $20, IIRC. Coolant, don't recall how much that costs, but it's not too pricey.

And where you're located, you could consider forgetting forever about the o-rings and use some 20mm freeze plugs to block those coolant passages. They're less than $1 a piece, I think.

don't need to remove carb and then manifold. You can do both as one piece. Just remove manifold with carb attached to it.

true. that's the school parking lot method, for sure. Just watch out for your fingers. Carb+manifold = ouch if it falls. Also make sure the connection on the backside of the alt is covered. Don't ask how I know.

one thing u all forgot in removing the intake and carb......drain coolant first. i know, it should be common sense to do that first but from some of the posts of questions i've read, sometimes i wonder.

No ... just let it drain as you remove the mainfold. What's a few more liters of AF in a parking lot?

so it doesn't get into the engine by way of the intake runners.

I just replaced my water jacket seals and intake manifold gasket. The top of my engine looked just like yours (with pooling coolant). You can find more information on the repair at this post: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...6#post3057106. My repair was eventually successful. Unforturnately, the water pump started to leak the very next day. Oh well, I've got nothing better to do than to work on my RX7 24/7. Still, I won't part with it for anything. Good luck!

slashdawg, did you say you can just block those passages? how does that effect the cooling of the engine and circulation of the coolant? just curious. thanks.
