Converting 79 from auto to 5 speed

I know I’ll need an SA trans but will any FB clutch/brake pedal work or does it also need to be SA?
thanks

When I did this conversion on my 1985, I only needed the clutch and brake pedals only with the larger bolt (and spacers) that they pivot on. I've done the 79 to 79 and it was pretty easy.

You can actually use an FB trans if you have an SA 5-speed tail housing to swap on, but that's probably not your best option.

Also be careful to use only SA or FB hydraulic parts as they changed the thread pitch between the two. Personally I'd go FB master/slave because the lines are much easier to find fittings for than the SA ones (FB's are M10x1.0 and SA's are M10x1.25). You also have more options for off the shelf braided stainless lines by going FB. This is what I did (originally on accident) and it's working great. I'm not sure how different the later year FB components are - or whether the '79 is much different than the '80 - but I used an '80 slave and master on an '80 and '82 trans (the car is an '80) and then swapped to an '82 slave and master and all worked fine. I recall that the studs on the new master were too long, but I fixed that somehow because it's been fine ever since.

Pardon the convoluted explanation and I now realise that wasn't really what you were asking but... hope it did some good in the least.

You will also need the shift boot and cover plate, rubber insulators under the shift boot, manual trans speedometer cable, manual transmission driveshaft and trans mount with crossmember, and manual trans starter. You will want to get a flywheel from a 79 or 80 because they are weighted differently for that engine. It's a fun and straightforward swap and the results are well worth the work.
