Considering purchasing RX-7 - '78 with 71,000 miles - What is it worth?
My bosses dad bought a 78 RX-7 in 78, had it preordered and has owned it ever since. It has been garaged. It has 71,000 miles. There are some dings and missing trim. It is Gold or Bronze. The seal for the back hatch is out but in the trunk. The owner took out the checkered seats and had them covered in purse leather but that is old and a bit stained. My boss is now selling it. What is it worth? Should I buy it?
You are asking Rx7 geeks if you should buy an Rx7, of course you should.
Looks like a super clean original SA. One of the more valuable first gen Rx7's. (That and 84/85 GSL-SE's).

Value is difficult to nail down...
For the absolute high end of what these cars can potentially sell for, check our BringATrailer. Because BAT caters to higher quality, more original/documented cars, and a group of enthusiasts.... it can sort of magnify the prices/values. The same car on a local Craigslist could sell for half of what it would go for on BAT....
And a large variation. First 79 below was $5400 and the second was $17k. Obviously very different condition, but still that's crazy.
What's it worth to YOU? Your boss could make some money and you could get a good deal on a car that's looks very nice. And he will know it's to a good home!
I agree that some modifications can lessen value but not always. All original cars are highly coveted, but a cars condition should also an important factor when determining its value. In some cases, you might consider a modified car that has been kept up and maintained, to actually be worth more than an all original car thats been neglected and needs a bunch of work to get it back on the road.

The car in this thread looks pretty nice overall in the single picture thats been provided, but its not much to figure a value on. To me, the two tone paint although not stock looks tasteful, the tan replacement seat covers, not so much. Just my personal taste.
