Consensus on shutter valve

I have searched over and over but can't get a definate idea on the shutter valve. I removed the rats' nest with Rx7Carl's tutorial. I have read theat you should plug both of the holes on the shutter valve and then I have read that you leave one open. Can someone please tell me what to do with it and maybe an explanation of why it should be done that way?

Thanks,
Chris

All I can tell ya is that I plugged the large vac hose and all my shutter valve woes disappeared.

I vaguely recall plugging the large one and leaving the small one open.

Exactly... ...except open to the vacuum system and not open air, though...ie., vacuum leak, otherwise....

Since I have removed the rats' nest, I have to cap off the small one, right?

I know how you feel. It's hard to find specifics on that weird device.

I don't know about the little tube - I believe it goes to one of the valves on the rats nest. As for the big tube, I've got that one plugged. I hope I did it right, because I really don't notice a MAJOR difference.

I didn't fell much of a difference in power or anything, but mine idles smoother with it plugged. The exhaust reeks quite a bit more but whatever.

If the rats nest is removed, why do you still have the shutter valve in place?

It's easy to remove. Just a few screw/bolts. Use some fast dry epoxy to close the holes.

the shutter valve is there to keep the temps in the main cat steady on deceleration, if you have no cats you dont need a shutter valve
