Anyone know where I can get something along the lines of a CUP-HOLDER FOR a 84 RX-7 GS. Maybe it's just me, but I can't even see where you would put aftermarket one. Any ideas (coffee is addictive ya know)?
I am not sure if the '84 has it, but my '83 has a little tray thing on the center console that comes out, well, my old '96 Miata had an ashtray in that same location and it looks like it attachs the same, thought I never tried it. In the Miata you can get a cupholder to replace the ashtray in that location. So, that may be an option. Good luck!
Oh yeah you can order them from Moss Motors in the Miata section online.

You have many options:
Shave, haircut, clean clothes, go to bar.
Place ad in personals (don't mention cupholder).
Go to laundrymat near college campus more frequently.
Purchase mail order bride.
Good luck! While cupholders can be very difficult to deal with on occasion, they have side benefits you would not believe!

The cup holders from mantis (rotorhead.ca) are flimsy at best. They have the cut outs for cups with foam glued to the bottom of the tray. You then have to cut an X in the cup holder holes and when you foce a drink into the hole the foam will part and hold it in place. It sounds great, but when I got mine (after about a month of waiting) it looked so cheesey I couldn't bring myself to put it in my car, so i left it out and put the gauge bezel in minus the cup holder. Mantis has a great site, and the cup holder is a great idea in theory, but maybe it needs a little more R and d. I'm not trying to start any fights or flame wars, just my opinion.

I needed a comfortable center console armrest versus the lid that my 85 GSL-SE has...............
I looked everywhere and found that an 97 Volvo 960 armrest fit exactly in the rx7's area..........
This has a well padded top with a secret............a pull out cup holder.........
I took it apart and painted the plastic to match my burgandy interior..........then re did the leather from beige to burgandy...........I used the same leather as my seets were recovered in..............Canoga Auto and Top
did this for me..........
I used sheetmetal screws and epoxy to attach the bottom plate of the lid to re-attach back to the console........
I am very pleased........comfort and and area for a can or water bottle.......Does not touch any of the window controls or joy stick......
Check out my pictures.........

Check out Griot's garage, (the expensive tool and car excessory catalogue) they have a cup holder that folds into a 3" by 3" square, then folds out and can hold big *** drinks. Its made in Germany (OOOOOOOOOOOOH AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH) and is the same one they use in a newer mercades. They are like 16.00 and are definitly the higher end of the cupholder market, they also look pretty damn cool, they are brushed aluminum and black studded plastic.

Now that's what I'm talkin' bout. A little creative inspiration is what I needed. I'd definitly enjoy creating, and using Jim's idea the most. Although I don't know how feasible pulling one off of a 97 960 VOLVO is, it has gave me the some ideas, and if they don't work, $16 for a quality cup holder is well worth it (I must have at least one cofee stain on every pair khakis I own). THANKS AGAIN
