Question cold start mod, submitted for discussion.

This worked on my gsl, I probably have something else causing the cold start/idle blues, but this worked for me, I noticed that if I disconnect the air vent solenoid connecter on cold morning start up the car idles much better till it warms up, so i put a cut off switch in the small carpeted area to the left of the console so I can cut off the voltage till the choke is released, then I cut the switch back on (because it starts to rough idle if left off after warming up), like I said this worked for me, if some of you 12a guys want to try this on a cold start morning by just disconnecting the connecter to see if yours will idle smoother, than maybe we are on to something...or I just need to fix whats causing my cold start problem.
please dont flame me, its just an experament. and I hurt easily. but it seems alot of us here share the same problem when the temperature drops....

Interesting. So you close off the vent till it warms up? Cool. Cold weather guys, try it, it might work. Let us all know.

I was checking volts on some of the connections with engine warming up, and when I unplugged this one, well the idle smoothed out, until it warmed up and then she wanted to hunt and die,,,so put it back to normal...then thought i might try putting a cut off switch on...havent tried it but twice, and worked both times at cold temps.....

I'm planning on trying it Tuesday, after I get my carb reinstalled (waiting on a part - the phenolic insulator between the carb and manifold).

You want a SWAG? Cutting off the vent will make it tougher for the fuel to get in, thus leaning the mixture a little. Then un corking it allows the bowls to see atmospheric pressure back on the fuel. Donna, instead of doing that tomorrow, lean out your idle mix 1/4-1/2 a turn and see if it has the same affect. Then when it warms up, put it back where it was.

-I don't have any better explaination.
It certainly makes me want to take a closer look into why, though.

I tried leaning and it still runs ruff,,,so i did the switch off and the idle smoothed out again,,,,,it's very wierd, but it works for me....
