Clutch swap

ok...so...on friday...i got some sort of anger or motivation (probably both) and dropped out my transmission, driveline, and exhaust in an attempt to swap clutches. I had a 13b pressure plate and clutch disc in VERY good condition...and i could tell the one in my 7 was about to go out...so i figured...it couldnt be that hard.

I WAS WRONG! First off...i didnt have a clutch alignment tool. Let me say this about the tool...GET ONE IF YOU ARE DOIN A CLUTCH SWAP! It is near impossible to line the clutch up correctly. Unfortunately...i had the transmission already up and spent about 2 hours trying to get it to go in before i figured out that it wasnt lined up...

So...i finally finished my swap...WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I can actually chirp 2nd gear now!!!

I guess im just kinda warning those who want to do a clutch swap anytime in the near future...take you time and realize that its probably easier to just pull the engine rather than dropping down the transmission. AND BUY A CLUTCH ALIGNMENT TOOL!!!

The tool is like $2 at the parts stores. Or if you are really cheep just cut off the input shaft on a bad trans and use it.

All you need to do is take apart a bad transmission and remove the input shaft; there is no cutting involved. It works perfectly, and is more substantial than a $2 alignment tool.

I ended up borrowing a universal clutch alignment tool from out local repair shop. Luckily, im good friends with the owner. The main problem was, the day that i found out my clutch wasnt aligned, everything was closed. I live in a small town where NOTHING is open on sundays. But the universal tool got the job done.

Now...anyone wanna gimme some money for my 12a bridgeport/rebuild???
