clutch feel

Ok im worried, cause when i had the slave cylinder off my car I accidentally tapped the clutch pedal and have alway been told this is a major no,no. but i got it on, and bleed'ed'ed(?) and now i can shift( finally drove it for the first time since i bought it in aug.) but the pedal is really soft, the only thing i have to compare to is my honda, and its so tight, you only have to push it half way down. and my friends Mazda mx-3 has a soft clutch, im hoppin its supposed to be soft, but u guys drive em, how does the clutch feel?

your're probably okay. Was the SC leaking at all? I think it's only bad when you push the pedal all the way down with the SC not pushing on anything.... it can literally pop the piston off if there is no resistance. If you only tapped it, and its not leaking, you should be fine. Soft stock clutches are normal.

I have a new pressure plate, clutch disk (both stock) and have bleed the system and mine still feels soft compared to other clutches. I haven't had any problem with it and it has been that way for about 6 months now. I wouldn't worry if I were you.

Between myself, erick1120, and ROTORCOASTER, all three of our clutches feel different. Yet there are no known problems with any of them. I will say this though, mine felt the most "normal" to all of us, just before my slave went out. Now that it has been rebuilt again, this time correctly, it feels much harder than it did.

Bottom line, the feel isn't really as important as how it works. If you aren't having any problems with it engaging/disengaging, don't sweat it too much.

Happy Rotorin'

mine is pretty soft too. at least compared to my honda accord. ive driven proteges and they are about as soft as my 7. nothing's leaking, so im just guessing everythings normal.

but i dont see any leaks. and there's no fluid loss either. well, in any case, i dont want to change the mc before i switch to rear discs. that way i take care of it all at one time.

1st gen rx7's clutch hydro's make the pedal feel like mush. i hate it !! i've bored, honed,enlarged,extended,shortened,replaced,rebuilt ,
different size lines both hard and soft, stainless steel braided hoses, the whole clutch (hi-preformance)
the whole thing works good, it just feels like mush
by design

Through all your boring and honing and whatever. What did you find that improved the pedal feel the most. Wouldn't it feel better if you bored it. I would like to have a real short clutch throw.
