Do you really *NEED* to block off the ACV?

The ACV isn't connected to the engine in any way is it? (aka cause a vacuum leak or exhaust leak).

I'm pulling off the unnecessary crap and I'm wondering what *really* is the need to block that sucker off.. as far as I've ever seen it's just connected to the air pump.

You NEED to block it off....It will create a vacum leak and your car will not run correctly...I had a leaking block off plate which caused me a few problems. It doesnt take long to make your own.

You'll need heavy gauge stuff - light weight aluminum will not seal - whatever you use should be heavy enough that it won't warp when torqued down. RB sells the plate for 6 bucks

I got some sheet steel for replacing body panels, it's about 12" x 10" and only flexes when I push fairly hard on the center along the 12" part.. should be ok I hope.

Nah, use heavy gauge aluminum. The RB plate is like 1/4" steel, and weighs alot!

You're kidding right? Do you also empty your pockets of change before going for a spin?
