Changing Power Steering to Manual

Yeah, shutup kid.
I think it would be better to keep the PS box, and remove the powersteering pump to make it manual. If I had some spare $, I would get a PS box and keep it manual so I could have the quicker steering ratio.

i had no choice when i did my engine swap. i lifted the PS pump by the pully and the pump fell off it. so i trashed the pump and caped the lines. it runs great, the only little complaint i have it is there is a little play in the steering. it might be becuase everything is 19 years old, but my steering is fine, the play is maybe 2 degrees(just enough to notice it).

I did search before I posted and most of what is out there is about using the power steering box without a ps pump.
What I am trying to find out about is putting a new manual box in a car that came originally with power steering. I use this car to road race and the slack in the center of the steering is just not going to work.
I priced a new manual box from mazda comp for $330, and I am just wondering if there is a lot of other stuff that I am going to have to change. Or is it as simple as swapping boxes.
Thanks,
Chris

I understand that the box would work better with fluid, but with 180K+ miles, it is just time to replace it with a new one.
SO that being said, I want to go to a manual box. Are the steering collums compatable, or do you have to pull the collum and replace with a collum from a manual?
Thanks,
Chris
