cdrad, maybe we can race now. my new 13b BP motor's coming in in about 1-2 months w/ a wacky modded 51 IDA. mine's will start on a cold day also, blah blah blah.

but to make it fair... i'll give u a jump start + 2 cars ahead....... maybe 3

Holley and stock carbs are low $$$ . . .

The power differences are very similar between Holley's and IDA's. I hear Holley's have a broader power band with out the peak hp of the IDA. In a real life run the Holley is faster! IDA's just look cool . . . HA, Ha, ha ! ! !

 

Another motor just arrived. Its a TII full bridgeport . Got to find a RX-3 or a SA to put it in. Will be using 51 IDA

 

You can put that in my car

 

You can put bigger jets into a carburetor. You can put smaller jets into a carburetor. But that doesnt change the fact that its still 600CFM.

 

So have any of you anti 600 people ever run one?

I havent found one person say, "I had _ _ _ _ carb and ran under 9.5 in an 1/8th with stock ports."

Im not saying that is fast or the fastest that setup would go.

 

cuz an IDA or DCO or DCOE is easier to work with and tune and has about the same or greater power than a holley 600 cfm.

Talk #'s, what would an IDA do in an 1/8th with a stock port 12a?

Easy to tune, just because their is half the carb? I thought they were more precise in tuning? replaceable air jets and what not?

Their is not much to Holley's.

 

why dont you tell us the #'s on a stock port 12-A with Holley.

You can get a 600 CFM Holley carburetor and mess around with it all you want. Increase or Decrease the Jet Size. But in the end, the intake volume is still 600CFM.

In my experience, IDA's are awesome. They cost too much in comparison to a holley. They are very hard to tune in comparison to a holley. And they hate cold weather.

But comon, be realistic. I was going to put a IDA on my 13B. It was $1200 for an IDA48 around here. Not counting the manifold. The Holley was $285. So you have to ask yourself, would you pay $1000 to get a few more horsepower?

thats because ur a dumb ***. stop posting based on hear-say. how many brands of carbs have you actually played with. As I said, if you dont have the experience, dont post. IMHO, Holley is a junk.

well, I was kinda rude for saying that holley is a junk...I just didnt feel its aggressive enough for my taste. But as I said, I tried most of the carbs out there and IDA is the way to go. If you doubt me, ask ppl that knows me...say Do Luck for example. He opened his eyes wide enough to see that its better than what he originally tought would good based on what he read in the forum.

 

I think both are awesome personally. Im not joking or nothing. They both have their disadvantages and advantages. My sister's VW Bug had double IDA 48's and in my experience it was such a pain in the *** to keep them setup right. And you couldn't start it below like -5. If one side Ran well, the other would run lean. It was a pain in the ***, hence why she sold it. She hated having to adjust them every few weeks. So now she drives a camaro z28 with a 350. She threw a holley on there in place of the edelbrock the previous owner had and it was very easy to get it to puuuur.

I'd like to try an IDA 48 or 51 on my 13B SP, but I dont have that kinda money. Well, I do, but its not worth it to me.

 

Yea, listen to Wackyracer and use a vdub carb! HA, Ha, ha ! ! ! and pay $1000's for it. HA, Ha, ha ! ! !

And yea the Holley is junk, I ran well over 10 secs in the 1/8th with the stock carb, but dropped around 1 sec off MY time (not hear say) when only putting the Holley and a RB intake on.

Dont use 600's they are way too big, but NO ONE HAS ANY NUMBERS at the strip with these wonderfull vdub carbs or stock carbs? Except me? Stock carbs are too small, webbers are too expensive and cheap Holley 600's are a dime a dozen and are very easy to tune, you be the judge.

I would think differently if someone would speak up and say, "I have run 9 flat on stock ports with a webber" or I ran 9.5 with a stock carb or SOMETHING? **** . . .

Yeah the VW with dual carbs is probably a PITA but lucky we only have to deal with one of them. No need to synchronize two carbs. I do love the ease in tunning too. I had a little problem starting in 10 degree weather but a good battery would have got me out of that.

 

Wow, for $1,000, I can have 2 sets of used 48 IDA and manifold. I should start selling my collection of IDA in your neighborhood then.
