carb too big?
i was thinking about buying a holley 600 cfm carb and a racing beat intake but i'm not sure if this is gonna be too big?
any info would be great cause i'm kind of clueless when it comes to carbs.. |
It wouldnt hurt to post what kind of engine this would be going on, and the mods so far. Otherwise this post is useless.
|
I'm sure that either way, that thing will be putting way too much fuel in. If I remember right, we're not supposed to go over 450 or soemthing like that?
|
Here........ a 600 CFM Holley on a 12A Turbo.
When set up right....fuel intake is about the same as stock on normal driving conditions. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...1_192_full.jpg |
SSGlopezvm, what jets do you have in that thing? I'm going to be putting a 600 on my 12A (stock ports, full exhaust) and I'm looking for setup ideas.
|
A 600 is too damn big!
Get a 465. |
what about an edelbrock 500cfm... it's an "off road / race use" carb?
on a street ported engine? thanks |
Just get a Sterling.
|
Don't put anything over a 465 or so on a stock port 12a, you are just asking for problems and head aches. But my 600 on my 13b 6-port is decent.
|
I have a holley 600cfm with 56 jets that i just put in...it doesnt run terrible...but 600cfm is too much...go with a 450.

First of all..... a 600CFM for a stock 12A is too big. A 390 or 460 is perfect for it. I wanted a bigger CFM on mine because the engine has been ported/polished and turbo-charged. I have 58 jets on low and 70 jets on high.... It starts and runs like a new Fuel injector seven. |
It is Not too big I had a stock port 12a running 9.5 sec in the 1/8th mile with tires spinning!
What are the Sterling carbs running in the 1/8th? |
You will have to tune . . .

Any other mods in your 13b-6? Headers? More splark? Manifold from Racing Beat? I'll appreciate you answers. |

What are the Sterling carbs running in the 1/8th? We're talking about the street here. Second of all, I think I'll have to call you on this one. |
I'm thinking to build a custom intake for my 13b mild modified to accomoded mikuni carb. I have difrent size in my mind 4X 32mm,4x 38mm, or 4X 44mm? anny suggestions?
Thanks, J.F :bigthumb: |
It ran on the street. I drove it everyday. I can take pics of the inside of the engine I have it apart now. What are you calling me on? Are you saying I didnt run that time with that set up? The engine was also trash, when I took it apart. Are you saying 9.5 is fast in a 1/8th? I dont know if it is supposed to be fast or not? To me that is NOT fast enough! I want high 8's with my new engine street ported.
|
Sorry- You're right. Didn't realize it was 1/8th.
Plus I havn't argued with cdrad51 lately, so I was just ready to rock, ya know? :D |
Ha, ha ! ! !
Good one, sounds like a hair trigger? YES deffenitly the 1/8th ! ! ! So, have you got any test n tune time on any of your radical race carbs? |
Not yet. This race season will show us some good info, and we're working with a few customers who plan on dynographing their rides in accordance to our jetting prescriptions.
We're also working on an emissions compliant Sterling Carb that will even stand up to tough CA testing. We'll see. |
