Angry Carb problems

Ok my FB has a pretty wicked stutter in first gear, but second gear revs right up to 7k fine, then third gear starts stuttering at about 5k. I can only get it going 160kms/hr.
I stripped off the rats nest and I think I plugged up all the vacume lines, but I'm not sure.
Anyone help me out.

When you do that, there is one hose you're not supposed to block. And that may be your problem!

I believe the hose he is referring to is the carb float bowl vent or carb vent hose as it's typically called.

If this works, click here

picture

or here:

Its the fitting number 8 that should be either left open or vented to the air horn.

No, hose 8 is for crankcase vent. The solenoid next to it is the vent solenoid for the carb, the actual vent is the triangle piece you see lookin down the carb.

The red circles are for the choke delay bellows.

rocket, you may have accidentally blocked your shutter valve. Did you use our tutorial on emissions removal?

Thanks Carl for the clarification.

Are the choke delay fittings needed for choke operation? I yanked mine and capped them with vacuum fittings.

No they are not needed, you can yank the whole thing, heater and all, but youll need to wire the choke to the actuating lever to have a working choke. (Kinda like the mech secondaries).

Let me clarify. My choke does not stay out when pulled. I removed those tubes and plugged the holes. I have checked the magnet and also the choke switch and both spec out ok.

I am in the process of replacing the entire wiring harness in my car and when I get it back in place, I hope the choke works.

Hey Guys,

My carb's being rebuilt, rather slowly, right now, and I made the biggest newberror of my life when I took it out. It was last summer, and I didn't label any of the tubes!!

So I was wondering, to the two or three of you who know about this (Slag, rx7Carl - author of the famous ratsnest removal) when I get the carb in, can I take some pics, e-mail you guys or post a thread for "let's match the hoses"?

I'd be FOREVER greatful. Right now when the names "solonoid" and "shutter valve" are thrown around, I can't make heads or tails of what's what on the carb... :S Man I wanna learn more.

Jon

I didn't know that there was a tutorial.

I'm with vipernicus42, I don't have a clue what you guys are talking about when you say "shutter valve" and stuff like that.

Could you show me a pic of where it is and what to block off.
