i just changed the alternator for my car, it worked for like one day then my alternator is not working again, could they have given me another faulty alternator? or is something wrong with my car?, checker auto parts has a limited lifetime warranty, i belive its a autolite and they are Remanufactured check out the site http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDeta...ype=11&PTSet=A i bought it in 2002, it went bad in 6 mths, changed and worked for like a year,i had a hard time getting it replaced because it would work on and off sometimes it charges and sometimes it doesnt charge my batt, now i finally got it changed under warranty and it worked for like a day, works on and off... if i have them check it it prob will test fine on their machine... and they prob wont change it as always, so im kinda pissed off now, now i have to carry a spare batt in my car when i go to skool and work tomorrow because i am too busy to go try and exchange it tomorrow im so fed up with this crap already...anyone else have this problem with their cars or with checker auto parts stores? what should i do...

 

Although I Know That Autolite Alternators Are Not Very Good. Do You
Have An Oversize Stereo Amp? When You Put These In And Your Battery Is
Discharged, Are You Recharging The Battery First? Have You Checked The Belt For Slippage, Cables For Deterioration And Proper Ground. Has The Starting System Been Tested For Amp Draw?
Possible Open Short In Electrical System? Rx7doctor

 

Bad or loose ground wiring will burn out the internal voltage regulator very quickly.

Probably a good idea to start to look at replacing both the negative and positive battery cables. Especially if you have those bolt on temporary cable ends.

well i have had bad alts before but my 81 would eat up a alt in about 6 mts. I later added 2 extra ground wires ... from the strut tower to the top of the motor and to the tranny bolt on the pass side. i saw 1 volt increase on my guage after this and didnt eat up another alt .

 

Everyone beat me to it. Change the ground wire. Hell, add a few you can't have too many. When I upgraded mine, voltage went up. I also killed alternators and batteries. Once I did this, no more problems. It's a shame that the guys at auto parts stroes haven't figured this out yet. I'm always in there hearing about people not knowing why they are killing batteries/alternators. Try that first.

 

well its weird, when i first start my car i could see that my alternator is charging via the batt gauge, but after i start to drive my car maybe a good 10-15 mins then i see that it is charging no more....the voltage goes down to about 12 or less depends on what my battery has. getting very frustrated right now...

 

any sort of stereo system im or in car electircals its only 55 amps cant run to much

 

ok well if my car is running and i take off one of the battery post, wouldnt my car still stay on via the alternator. its weird cuz like i said when i start my car in the morning to go to school, i still make it to school with no trouble, alternator works fine...do u still think its my battery cables?

 

as we said... ADD SOME EXTRA GROUNDS, hell when i work on fc's i stress on the known fact that there grounds SUCK and offer a 6 ground wire kit... 8 guage amp wire with soldered on ring lugs... a good clean spot and blam all done. a ground really does make a big diffrence

Hey I Had That Problem One Time With My 80 Model, It Was The Wire That Comes Off Of The Alt Back To The Battery Was Hard As A Rock And The Resistance Is So High Back To The Battery That It Pops The Reg In The Alternator. Try Checking The Voltage At The Wire On The Back Of The Alt. If It Is Real High While The Wire Is Hooked Up But Normal When Un-hooked, It Is The Wire
