The alternator, when it charges etc ?

I have read many different answers trying to figure out my problem with my car.

What should my PFC read at for voltage at idle? What does the alternator charge at? And how low does the voltage have to get for the alternator to kick on? I'm trying to not have to call a tow truck again...

Alternator is on whenever your motor is on. Charge should be around 14v when your car is running. Anything lower means your alternator needs a rebuild or the cable going to it is corroded and not sending the correct voltage.

I get different answers every time I ask... Do you know where that cable is routed to? I know it goes all over the place. Where does it take the voltage from? And can I just run a straight cable to the battery to test to see if it kicks on to 14 when I do that? (The green/white) I was under the impression that wire must tell the alt when to turn in/off. Trying to not tear anything else apart I don't have to.

The cable is on your starter harness. It goes from the alternator to the fuse box. The alternator is generally always on. What is your pfc reading at idle and while accelerating? You might also have a broken alternator plug or the cable is frayed. I had an issue with my charging because of that for some reason too.

Voltage varies but I removed and reloomed/inspected that entire harness trying to find the problem. Just didn't work from the x12 / x/11 back to the fuse box. Im thinking my issue may be there. Both wires run to fuse box or only the positive ? (White/green) THANK YOU SO DAMN MUCH

Just double checked and I think the Alternator connect is purely to light up the battery light in your car to let you know if you have low battery. I would say to check your alternator before anything but that's just me.

I know the green/white wire is feeding power to the alternator, I found that out.. Hahaha
Finally found some hand drawn picture that kind of agrees with what we're both saying. 1 wire gets routed to the battery (eventually) the other goes to the dash. I would assume the white/black that goes to dash is a power OUT to illuminate the low battery light and the green white is power IN to turn the alternator on... Who knows.
