Question can't turn engine off

I'm posting for my hubby. He has a new '85, GSL, automatic. (I know...) The car won't turn off. He took the ignition wiring out and cleaned it, refreshed the solder. Didn't help. He has to disconnect the neg. lead from the battery and the alternator connector to shut it off. When we first got it it was running ok, but the idiot lights were all on. They stopped that, but the car died several times and had to be jumped. Any ideas?

Probably not relevant, but the AC blower doesn't work. We got this baby from a guy downt the street for $400. Literally rolled it home. He was told by his mechanic that a "piston had blown." We explained it to him but he didn't want to fool with it. Wouldn't start. Took us 2 days of ATF start efforts and got it up and running. For a couple of weeks it was running fine. Now this. Only problems are these electrical glitches. It's in nearly pristine condition

In the mean time, maybe you could pull off the negative terminals of the coils to turn the engine off. It's easier than having to disconnect the battery and alt every time, and since you're under the hood anyway...

They're quick disconnects.

Yeah, don't grab the bid rubbery ones.

Oh wait, I think ypu're talking about inductive kickback. Maybe it's not such a good idea to pull off the negative wires.

I took off the ignition wires, cleaned them and put them back. Couldn't find anything that looked bad like burnt wires or worn contacts. I'd hate to go to the expense of replacing them for no fix. Is there any other possibility?
