Can't shift
So I was driving home the other day and I was merging onto the highway and when I went to shift into third gear it wouldn't go in so I pulled off the road and I thought maybe it was just me so I get going again and still no third gear so I was going to skip third and shift straight to fourth but I had no fourth, so I pulled off to the side again and the only gears I have are 1st and 2nd no 3rd, 4th, 5th or reverse. So I got it home and took the shifter out and theres this little clip or something just dangling down in there I got a pair of clamps and pulled it up but I don't know where it goes to or what its for.
Anyone know whats going on here cause I have no clue.
I'll try and post a pic later tonight or tomarrow.

That spring clip forces the shifter over to the left hand side of the gates. Most of the trannys I've pulled, the spring was broken. Sounds like part of the spring is interfering. There is a side plate on the shifter housing. Remove that and pull out any broken spring parts.

go to photobucket, create an account and host the photos on the site(real easy, once the account is created, you dial in the size settings on a drop down menu, hit "choose photos" then pic the photo you want, I reccomend doing it one at a time or if they're in the same folder hold control and click both). It will give you 4 links. One is a link with bbc coding (forum coding) image tags that look like "[img]". Copy paste that into your post and you'll be able to see the photos. Make sure Photobucket is set to reduce the size to 800 X 600 pixels when you upload, or you'll have a group of very annoyed people asking you to resize the pics. Keep your photobucket account for posting on any forums or threads in the future.
If you're still having trouble I can't make it any easier than referring you to this thread:

this happened to me once in the snow. i pulled the tranny and one of the shift rods inside was caught up. gave it a wiggle and put the tranny back together and it was fine.

no class, just, drain the gear oil, remove the trans as per the FSM, or the haynes, remove the tail section, re-align shift rods all to middle, and reassemble. super easy.
