Unhappy Broke the breaks

Last week I went out to get some milk at the local store one night (any excuse to go for a cruise! ). I know the road like the back of my hand, and rarely have to brake for a good three mile stretch of nice road.
Wellllp, I hit 85 in the top of third as I was cresting a hill and sure as **** a deer jumped out of the field. This happens all the time around me, so I did'nt have a knee-jerk slamming of the brakes, but I did step on them...or try.
The pedal went effortlessly down to the floor and I was'nt slowing for ****! Because I tend to **** around alot with my car on these country roads, I'm pretty handy with the e-brake, and without hesitation, I went for it. All was fine, as I would've missed the deer anyway even if I had'nt slowed, as she darted back into the field anyway.

Upon inspection in daylight, my booster is leaking nice and juicey, wrinkling the paint under the steering box quite nicely. (Is "Zip-Strip" actually brake fluid?lol)
Luckily for me there,s no leaking inside the car. It's clearly coming from the resevoir-to-booster gasket.

I thought these things were a gradually worsening condition?! Is this a normal way for brake boosters to cry out for an overhaul?
I've removed many booster assemblies from parts cars, as I alwys thouroughly strip a rex before scrapping it. But I've never rebuilt one. Is it difficult? How much?

Is it actually the booster that has gone bad or the brake master cylinder?

Whoa, glad you didnt hit anything. There is no "booster to MC gasket. Your piston seals are shot, prolly the cold shrunk them (remember cold= shrinkage (all guys know this)). Boosters dont leak, theres no fluid in them, at least theres not SUPPOSED to be any in there. Your MC is shot, get a replacement. And wash/wipe out any brake fluid from the booster with rubbing alcohol.

Hey this happened to me too. The brake master leaking, not the deer thing. I changed out my master before anything scary like that happened, and it was about $130 for a new master from mazdatrix. I have some pics in my sig. Easy job too, just don't lose a bolt like I did!

Nah, Ive never had any luck rebuilding these. Just get a rebuilt from Napa, Autozone, wherever. Youll get a lifetime warrantee with it too. Usually theres rust in the bore and it will never work or last long again.
