Brake warning light

The warning light went off. I searched and found that it could lead to low brake fluid(mine is fine),
Parking brake on(mine is off),
too far pedal travel(mine is inconsistant from great to weak),
Bad MC(no idea on mine's age-- only $30)
Frozen caliper(rolls fine in Neutral)

I will re-bleed and flush MC tonight and report back, but do you have any other ideas on what to check?

Thanks,
KGray

When that sensor in the master cylinder gets low it goes off. I would check for a loose connection.

if the brake warning light is off your in good shape. You don't want it on while your driving.

all (as in one light on each side) are working. one of my side markers is out, but has been. Bled at the master and no air bubbles. I can double check connections, but everything looked fine when i bled. any other ideas?

Bump. It was cold outside today and the light went away until the car warmed up and now it is back on.

Verify that the float portion of the sensor is not stuck in the down posistion.

It used to be (not sure if it is in our cars) that a brake warning light would come on if there was a pressure differential between the front and rear brake systems. That would usually indicate a leak in the lines somewhere. As long as there was equal pressure, the switch would not be activated, and the brake warning light would remain off.

the float is at the top, so no indication there, will check for leaks and stuck caliper/drum next.

The light will come on if the float is too low in the master, or there is a wiring fault.

Could it maybe be that your emergency brake cable is sticking a little in the cold weather, lets go when it warms up?

Oh yeh, to get the master cylinder off you need to undo two nuts on the cabin side of the fire wall, up near where the brake pedal lever pivots. Also all those brake lines of course.

um, I'm not sure if you can, it might be sealed to the cylinder. But why take that off, I thought you were replacing the master cylinder. They usually come with the res attached.
