Bogs out after driving

hey everyone, wondering if i could catch anyone's attention, i recently purchased an 82 rx7 gsl, and it idles pretty good, and does what seems to be a misfire and shakes a little. when you drive it down the road it seems fine for a minute and then about 5 minutes in it starts to bog down and will die, i don't think it's a fueling issue because before it bogs i can rev it up to almost redline and after i let it sit for a few minutes it fires right back up and runs good again for a minute. i went through and set my ignition timing, and ordered coil ignitors and also distributor cap and rotor ( because contacts are disgusting) any thoughts ? new spark plugs are in it as well, think i posted in wrong section last time hahaha

I wouldn't discount fuel issues just yet. I had exactly the same symptoms with a clogged fuel filter. The filter would stop the flow of fuel, but after the gunk in it settled for a minute, enough fuel would flow to run the car for about five miles before it would clog up again. It's easy to pop the clip off the tank side of the filter and see what come back out. In my case it looked like rusty mud. It ran for an hour or so after emptying some of the crap out of the filter. A $5 part, a pair of pliers and 10 minutes fixed the problems. Might not be your issue, but it could be worth checking out since it's fairly easy to do.

(Then replace the rusty gas tank if it's contaminating the fuel enough to clog the filter!)

The previous owner said that he dropped the tank, cleaned it, put in new lines and an online filter. but i do agree that i can't rule it out

the filter is a 10 second check with no tools - they are semi- transparent and crud should be easy to see.

A very worthwhile check/replace to eliminate issues and get an idea of how clean the tank really is.

I still buy the steel ones, but it's still a quick cheap and easy thing to change and you can visually inspect the contents. Regular maintenance item, just like the air filter, and for the same reasons.

UPDATE: installed all my ignition stuff and timed ignition, runs much stronger, put car in the air and checked filter, it was pretty yucky so i replaced it, made it about 4x the distance but sadly it bogged out again, i'm thinking the junk in the tank is clogging these filters. dropping the tank tomorrow to see if it's too rusty to salvage

I had the exact same problem with a Jeep I bought, there was so much rust in the tank that it eventually clogged the fuel pickup tube in the tank and it wouldn't run anymore.

It was a nice Jeep though wish I would have kept it.

Final Update: dropped the fuel tank, disgusting mess of rust and what looked like mud, dropped a bunch of pocket change in it and flushed it out with gas, changed fuel filter and it runs perfect now, drove over 30 miles and hopefully many more to come

In the EU they are mixing the 95 with Ethanol and they call it E10, but Ethanol will loosen muck and stuff that's in the pipes and hoses. So if you experiencing very fast fuel filter blackness (fuel filter turns black inside), replace the hoses with new hoses that are Ethanol resistance. Maybe alsa flush the system
