Best Weber for a 12a & how much?
Am thinking of going the Weber route - What's the best one for a 12a - Also how much should I expect to pay for a good used one plus manifold?
Thx

IDA 48. Carb & intake will vary from $375 on up. New the carb is around $500.
Now for road use only the DCOE is a good carb. IDA=downdraft, DCOE=sidedraft. IDA will make the most top end power.

but i would go with the dcoe because you need a choke where you live an ida would be hard to start in the cold winters. IDA dont have chokes i do the the dcoe does but not 100%sure but i am sure some1 elese that know more about these carbs will chime in.

I dont' know about DCOE's but you might want to reconsider your choices if your 12A motor is stock.
Racingbeat has a chart for the 48IDA that does not recomend these carbs for a non ported motor.
Go here and click on the 'intake refernce guide' link

Let me know if I can help you on tuning/jetting.

i second that.. the things that separate weber carbs from others is the ability to fine tune the carb to most any application to fulfill your individual need as far as performance, and driveability goes..

Guys - thx all for the comments and suggestions - i think until i decide to do some engine work I will just stick with the Nikki and go the better header/exhaust route. Given our winters up here, once engine mods begin sounds like the 45 dcoe is the way to go. Thx again - Tom.
