Best Weber for a 12a & how much?

Am thinking of going the Weber route - What's the best one for a 12a - Also how much should I expect to pay for a good used one plus manifold?

Thx

IDA 48. Carb & intake will vary from $375 on up. New the carb is around $500.

Now for road use only the DCOE is a good carb. IDA=downdraft, DCOE=sidedraft. IDA will make the most top end power.

but i would go with the dcoe because you need a choke where you live an ida would be hard to start in the cold winters. IDA dont have chokes i do the the dcoe does but not 100%sure but i am sure some1 elese that know more about these carbs will chime in.

Haven't seen that type of bell. Is there an advantage to the center pieces, if so what/why?

If this is just for road use, then why not stick with the Nikki? Good performance, driveability, and economy. Just my 2 cents...

Robert, you are the MAN! Anyone needing some custom carb work, take a look at that. I need to find the modification specs and post them when I dyno the car.

Soon that bad boy will be on my Mazdacomp portmatched/polished manifold.

You need to sell me some stuff Robert and get your $$ back. I'll email you later.

Hard to argue with that. I've never had any problems out of the Nikki, now the SE fuel system another story. The negative on the Weber is the cost of jetting and the trial and error involved. I was looking at my jets/ac and emulstion tubes and I'll bet I have $500 worth of that crap.

I dont' know about DCOE's but you might want to reconsider your choices if your 12A motor is stock.

Racingbeat has a chart for the 48IDA that does not recomend these carbs for a non ported motor.

Go here and click on the 'intake refernce guide' link

Yes. You can use a 48 IDA on stock 12-A. Tuning is the key.

i second that.. the things that separate weber carbs from others is the ability to fine tune the carb to most any application to fulfill your individual need as far as performance, and driveability goes..

Guys - thx all for the comments and suggestions - i think until i decide to do some engine work I will just stick with the Nikki and go the better header/exhaust route. Given our winters up here, once engine mods begin sounds like the 45 dcoe is the way to go. Thx again - Tom.
