Belt Slipping

Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone else has problems with their belts slipping in the higher RPM range? My belt starts slipping at about 5,000 and higher. I only have one belt from main pulley, water pump, and alternator. I've tightened the belt the best I could but it just slips in the higher range. Any help is appreciated!

I've run a single belt for ever and never had it slip at any rpm. Sure you are not getting the belt wet?

Alot of guys have used the FHP type belts with a single belt but I have always used the stock one.

Yew can pick up a dual pully for the alt. for like $20-$30. This will allow you to run two bults plus it will slow the waterpump resolution down at high rpms.
I agree with the Doc. 1 belt should be sufficient...in the case of what your dealing with. I would replace the belt with a new, or go double pully and be done.

best of luck

I had the exact same issue, it turned out my radiator cap had a small crack in the seal and at higher rpm's it would spray slightly out and get the belt wet just enough to eventually cause it to squeel at high RPM's... very hard to detect until the spraying got bad enough where I noticed it.

Belt definitely isn't wet but it is probably old and is getting small cracks. I'll replace it after payday and see how that helps. I'd like to go with a Gilmer system eventually.

... Dual pulley not really going to give more belt contact to the water pump pulley which drives the fan.
I installed an electric fan, free up some HP and slippage is GONE...

I dunno. I'm really not a big fan of only running one belt. Forget about slippage-think about the water pump. I've had alternator belts break on me before, and you drove quite a bit before you realize your electricity is dying. Now imagine that this happened without your water pump working also.

Mazda slapped 2 belts around the pump for a reason.

Do a Search for YaHoo Belt.
I run a Double Pulley Setup. No Slippage ever.
If you go this way make sure to buy the Belts in Pairs. Go GoodYear!!!
The other plus is that if one breaks you have a BackUp already installed.

What Steve is saying for those of you that don't know is to buy the belts as a matched set. Meaning there is a cut or production number on the belts, you need 2 belts with this same number. That gurantees that they are as close to being the same as possible.
