Beeping in the dash??

Today accelerating from a 4 way stop sign and turning right I hear this beeping coming from the dash somewhere. These are the same beeps I hear when I autocross. It sounds kinda like a radar detector.

What are these beeps??

are you sure theyt are not just squeaks? perhaps it's your redline buzzer malfunctioning. have you messed with it?

I know for a fact it is not squeaks and is a beeping coming from some kind of speaker. It's a different tone than the redline buzzer and isnt a continuous tone, its "beep beep beep beep"

the redline buzzer is a continuous tone?

I'm dying listening to this buzzer staying on all the time. I drive almost an hour to and from work. That buzz has to go!

Yeah if you hold it abover redline all day long.

I mean the beeping I'm hearing is a couple of short "beeps" in a row.

I just played wround with some wires the other day and found 2 wires lose near the key switch and when you put them together the buzzer for the key turns on look near the egnition switch to if you can see the key buzzer box and the 2 wire take it off and see they fell and are touching or the points could be stuck, that sound seems like it comes from the left speker.

I had the same problem. I have solved it.. Heres how.. First... Remove the steering coloum panels. The remove the guage surroung. affter that you must manuver the guage pod out of place. on the Right hand side top corner. you will see a white box, just inside the electronics panal. all you have to do is break one of the contacts on the little white box and your problem is solved forever. Your car will never make that anoying beeping sound again. the reassemble. your done.

I just went out to the car, and since the steering column panels are all gone already, all the wiring is exposed. So I found a taped up bundle of wires, and with the key turned to ACC, poked at the wiring. Nothing seemed to be touching, but just fiddling with that taped portion, the buzz stopped. It seems to have been the seatbelt warning buzzer, as that buzzer still comes on, but goes off after a few seconds.

Finally...I can drive in relative peace. Just me and my godaweful loud exhaust.

A lot of these buzzings sound like they might be the infamous oscillator problem, if so it's an easy fix. Up by the left front headlight there is a little black box called the oscillator. Unplug it and the annoying buzzing noise should go away. When I plugged mine back in, the noise didn't come back. I wish all repairs were this easy.

I noticed with mine the other day, the noise wasn't there when I started the car. Pulled onto the road, and it started back up. Rounding a turn, I had my arm on the door out the window, and realized the door wasn't quite closed. Opened and shut it again, hard, and the buzzing stopped.
Happened again yesterday, tried slamming the door again, but it didn't stop immediately.

Is there a buzzer for the door being open too? I can open the door and not get a buzzer though, so that doesn't sound right.

I'll be looking for that oscillator box this week probably.

I did the same thing except I used a slodering iron and removed the whole thing then there is a little black one on the other side of the cluster that I removed also. When I got the car if the fuse for the interior light and radio was in then it would constanly go off. Removing these took care of the problem. All the idot lights still work but with out the noise.

Wow, there are still people out ther with the rev buzzer. I'm gonna reset the rpm on mine and put a shift light on it as my dash lights are no good at night and I think it would be good for a hight rpm bridgeport motor. I sure don't want to have any kind of buzzer though.

LOL. Ok, I figured out my problem today.

So I got in the car coming home from work. Keys in, buzzer on, ready for an hour of hell.

Shut the door, and the plastic cover on the dome light (?) by the rearview mirror pops off. Buzzer goes off. Thrilled, I remember how proud I was figuring out that slamming the door good and hard keeps the buzzer off.

I start the car, and while waiting for it to warm, I fumble around for the plastic piece (I don't have a bulb, so no light). Found it, popped it in place.

Buzzer starts up again.

Dammit.

Pop the cover off.

Buzzer stops.

Cover on. Buzzer.
Cover off, no buzzer.

AHA!

Pop the cover on, insisting that it should be there. Buzzer on. Turn switch from "Door" to "Off".

Buzzer stops.

Damn I'm a genius.

Or not (;

Sounds like a short in you dome light circuit. There is a buzzer that tells you that your key is in the ignition when the door is opened. I believe this works on the same circuit as the dome light. Take you dome light down and see if there are any noticable exposed wires. If not, it might be somewhere else. If its not at the dome light, then forget looking for the short. It will just waste hours of your time. The wires in these cars are so hard to follow. Just keep your dome light off.

Definately sounds like the oscillator. This problem drove me nuts for several weeks until I finally had to park the car because the noise was so nasty.

After a few weeks I did an internet search and discovered this forum. I posted a thread under "screeching noise":

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=screeching

And got several quick and helpful responses, along with the usual chiding reserved for nubies. Carl provided emotional support and Phil Martin and JeryJ provided the correct analysis - it's the oscillator, stupid!
