Battery Relocation Tips Sought

I would like to move my battery to one of the storage bins. I have 6x9 speaker mounted on carpet-covered board at this time, but clearance shouldn't be an issue.

Knowing that I should use a high quality ( high $ ) sealed conventional or gel celled battery, my question is about what gauge wire to run for that long of run ? Also, what is the best path for getting the wires to the compartment ?

Anybody got any pics and specs of their install ?

gel cel battery is recommended to elimnate the need for a battery box. the ground cable can be mounted in the seat belt bolt. for the positive wire, run it under the carpet and through the grommet near the pedals. then, the + wire to the fuse box, connect it to the starter along with the battery's + terminal.

just buy the gel battery and battery strap.

Don't know if I quite understand this statement. Should one iwre run to both of these or run seperate wires for both. Pics would be cool. Thanx

Buy the summit battery relocation wires, probably the cheapest and easiest way to go. Run the negative wire to the chassis somehow, a seat belt bolt hole sounds good, and then run the positive wire to the positive wires that originally went to the battery up front. Take off the connector from the old pos. wires that originally went over the battery post, and just secure your new positive wire to the old ones, I used a large clamp type thing thats meant to clamp large wires together. Wrapped that up in electrical tape, and I was good to go

if you look at the stock set up, there is a wire that runs from the battery's + terminal to the fusible links (in front of the 2 coils). this is your main wire. Since, the battery will be re-located inside the car, you will need to extend it to reach the new battery. But I found it much easier to extend it and hook connect it to the starter. sorry about the confusion. its hard to postwhore and work at the same time.

buy the battery relocation 0 gauge kit from summit.

a little butane torch and some solder.

an optima or redtop battery.

wire it from the battery, to the starter, then to the 2nd gen fuse box in the engine bay. then on the other side of the fuse box (80amp fuse) wire that to the alternator. and you are done. ground goes to ground. i ran the wire from the passenger storage box to the hole for the wires for the fuel pump. up the drivers side and to the start like that.

make sure to add some more grounds .. i tried a 4 gauge kit, but the distance from the alt to the battery was too long and loading up the battery too much and smoking the belts.

carl.

eh don't battery 'fumes' go down, meaning you'd only have to have a hole or two in the bottom of the bin and you'd be safe... just something I heard.

The correct battery is sealed for mounting in any position ( unlike the missus ) so there is no going down ( like the missus ).

I would suggest going with the welder lead cable. It is really heavy duty with plenty of shielding. And I don't think it would be too hard to figure out a good way to route your wires and splice them into the existing power system (that is unless you are looking to re-do all of the lines that currently come from your battery)

This may sound rinky-dink, but I'll probably just take a piece of seat belt material around the battery and then self-tapping screws through washers through the two ends of the material into the vertical metal back of the storage compartment. Course, if I flip the car I guess it could come out of my little "battery corral", but that won't happen but once (unless I install airbags like dude in the other thread).

Then I'll reinstall my storage compartment and carpeted cover with speaker in it. Should work fine, look good and not be hell to get to later.

I have a length of 2/0 wire. It's awfully thick. Think it'll be adequate for the battery relocation in my 20B project?
