Battery exploded? Acid shorted something? HELP
So, as the title implies, I pulled the "j hook" battery tie downs off one day and forgot to put them back on. As I was driving about 3 weeks later, the car started stuttering and stalling as if the carb was cold and you hit the gas too hard. The car finally quit, and as I pulled the hood open, I saw that the battery had slid back onto the A/C compressor. The compressor had spun and ate into the battery, and while spinning, threw (water, acid???) some liquid all over the engine bay.
Now, the symptom is that the car dies when the gas pedal is pushed more than about 1/4 to the floor. I can accelerate all the way to 80 so far, as long as the pedal doesn't go too far. It seems like an ignition problem to me, but its raining outside, and the car is still hot, trying to get ideas.

same thing happened to me. make sure you get underneath the batterty box, theres an ac line that runs thru there. mine only lasted 2 months before the acid got the best of it.
you did replace the battery already right?

CLEAN YOUR ENGINE BAY THOROUGHLY NOW.
There is a lot of aluminum in the engine.
Aluminum is porous.
Sulfuric acid dissolves aluminum.
Just hosing the engine down will NOT get all the acid, since there is acid in the pores.
It is very common for engines and transmissions to be permanently damaged to the point of being unusable after an accident that breaks the battery.
GOOD LUCK getting the acid out - if you act fast you might not have to replace your engine/front cover/distributor/alternator/etc!

Baking soda. Alkaline so it'll neutralize the acid, but not so strong as to eat anything itself.
Good ol arm and hammer. Not the kind you use on cakes and ****.

Uhhhh,dont breathe any of that!
Use baking soda to neutralize the acid.If you just keep throwing chemicals at it,your gonna make it worse. The baking sode will render the acid harmless....well,the acid it can get to anyways.Peejay is right about the aluminum being porous.Do the best you can and pray its enough.......

how does it continue to run afterwards to cause the problems he listed if it doesnt have a battery?unless he didnt turn it off to fix the battery until he got home.if the battery blew up completely it wouldnt have restarted so that he would notice the other problems.

I have a wrecked FC that I've gotta cut up for parts. The battery was crushed in the wreck.
It had electricals for a short time after the battery was smashed.

sorry about the whole battery misconception... it didnt literally explode (as in hydrogen)... the ac rubbed through it, then spun the acid all over the bay... as of now, i had used baking soda, then bleach (before waiting for responses to my question), and tomorrow will do baking soda again. after the bleach, i rinsed down the whole bay w/water, and it runs fine now (with new battery). the starter is having issues, i think the water got to the wires, sometimes it fires, sometimes not... thanks for the help thus far guys
