bad running
bad running
my 80 starts runs but going down the road like its on one rotor than it spits a bit and picks up like nuthing was wrong. i had it running fine weeks a go and now it pulling the same thing as lastime. it gets fuel it gets spark . sounds like a hit and miss motor any thoughts?
If it was spark related or electrical, chances are it would quit and not come back. Sounds like an intermittent fuel problem of some sorts. The first basic things to check is the fuel filter / pump and lines.
Does it only do this after it gets warm? Do you see any exhaust changes? Describe the conditions around when this happens.
This can be one of several issues:
1. Sticking seals on one rotor. Not unusual for an older motor. Thicker oil may help.
2. Internal coolant leak into one rotor. Again not unusual for an old motor. Some have had
success with Alum-a-Seal. Usually see white plume in exhaust.
3. Ignition going out. Ignitors tend to show failures when hot. If this only happens cold I
would look at something else.

Blown water ring? Liquid glass? Reduced water?
Definitely a fuel issue. Make sure your fuel lines are not tangled up near the pump causing a pinch. Blow though the return check valve and verify it works. Check that the charcoal canister is not clogged causing over pressurizing.

If you have gunge at the carby, then its gotten past the filter. Have you replaced the filter??? First thing I do when I pull my 80 out of storage each spring!
Could be your gas tank is shedding into the fuel system. Especially happens if car sits long periods with little fuel left in the tank. Air and moisture starts rusting out innards. Pieces fall into fuel...This is usually most noticed when the fuel tank is LOW on fuel (under 1/2). If the problem (assuming fuel filter replaced) persists when tank is low, but goes away when full, then its prob the tank needing removal and a clean-and-re-seal. Such cleaning and seal kits are available thru POR15.
Been there.
