If it was spark related or electrical, chances are it would quit and not come back. Sounds like an intermittent fuel problem of some sorts. The first basic things to check is the fuel filter / pump and lines.

Does it only do this after it gets warm? Do you see any exhaust changes? Describe the conditions around when this happens.

This can be one of several issues:

1. Sticking seals on one rotor. Not unusual for an older motor. Thicker oil may help.
2. Internal coolant leak into one rotor. Again not unusual for an old motor. Some have had
success with Alum-a-Seal. Usually see white plume in exhaust.
3. Ignition going out. Ignitors tend to show failures when hot. If this only happens cold I
would look at something else.

Blown water ring? Liquid glass? Reduced water?

Definitely a fuel issue. Make sure your fuel lines are not tangled up near the pump causing a pinch. Blow though the return check valve and verify it works. Check that the charcoal canister is not clogged causing over pressurizing.

yes the gasket for keeping water out of the rotor that was my last isue.i used liquid glass .sealer also had this carb isue a while back.so today i pulled the top off the carb. the rear float realy wasnt alowing a good flow as i blew threw it.so i adjusted that .put it back on and its worse . i cranked up,it idled way high.breather was off .i covered the carb best i coud by hand and the idle rose and smoothed out a bit than died.the best i can discribe the sound while running is if you have ever blown a apex while driving it .its the same but i do have compression and it does run corectly at times . what charcol contrainer?and whats with all this junk atatched to th ecarb coud it be a bad thing thats atatched? i am not feeling mutch suction or air flow to my distributor adv i dont know if the rats nest even has any flow at all coud this be part of the problom?it befinently runs beter while chocked .i just cant figure if its a air or a gas isue . i woud gess gas moore air isnt bad in most cases .i just dont know i love my rotory but its just so complicated at times ..maby ill re do 1 of my other carbs with all the junk off and start mixing my gas maby my oil isnt geting o the carb? how do i know?at start up it runs fine when i aply gas at bogs out at a bout 3000rpm

If you have gunge at the carby, then its gotten past the filter. Have you replaced the filter??? First thing I do when I pull my 80 out of storage each spring!
Could be your gas tank is shedding into the fuel system. Especially happens if car sits long periods with little fuel left in the tank. Air and moisture starts rusting out innards. Pieces fall into fuel...This is usually most noticed when the fuel tank is LOW on fuel (under 1/2). If the problem (assuming fuel filter replaced) persists when tank is low, but goes away when full, then its prob the tank needing removal and a clean-and-re-seal. Such cleaning and seal kits are available thru POR15.

Been there.
