AutoX photos and videos

This weekend was the regional AutoX competition here in Saskatoon. Two days of racing against a field of nearly 90 competitors. Here are some pics from the event:

A compilation vid:

And some pics of my car:

Overall the weekend went well and I placed 4th in a very competitive C/SP field. The winner of my class was a supercharged NB Miata, followed closely by a local in a highly modified CRX.

You must have different class rules than what we have around here. Forced induction is not allowed in SP classes, unless is is factory. Any mods to the engine internals and/or adding forced induction will put you in street modified. As will modding a stock forced induction system. Helps to keep the feild level.

Nice video.I have never seen an auto-x course with so many straights. Is that in a stadium parking lot? It looks like your friend doing the filming had a heck of a ride.I really wish I had done some auto-x this year, but I had too much on my plate.Maybe in the spring.Oh yeah you need to clean the dash board of your car.HEE-HEE.

In Solo II, you do not get a 'drive through' on the course. You do walk the course ahead of time so that you don't get lost, but the only time you're on the course in a vehicle is during a timed run. We run our events at the local hockey stadium parking lot, which makes for quite a large course. To run the video, you need the XViD codec.

Yes, I know my dashboard is dirty. It's a racecar. :p

I was just bustin *****.I thought your car was a daily driver as well.I am sure my "nice" sunny day 79 has the same sort of grime on its dash, and I allegedly like my car a lot,but obviously not enough to clean the dash that often.By the way the flares look nice.

Thats the biggest/longest auto-x course i've seen. I'm glad you still enjoy do it though. I lost my drive to do it, most due to miatas.

It was about 31-32 C both days, which is somewhere in the 90's, I think. You could see the heat rising from the pavement most of the afternoon. The lot is indeed quite huge, somewhere in the neighbourhood of 600m on the longest side, making our regional event one of the most desirable in Western Canada. Now that the word has gotten out and the competitors are flocking in from Alberta and Manitoba, we have a great racing area and the competition for a real top quality event.

As for still enjoying AutoX, I'm in it mostly for the seat time and the benefit to my own driving skills. My car is severely underprepped for my class, but I'm stuck in SP because of my GSL swap. Any modifications to the brakes is an automatic trip to SP, even though points wise I should be in C Super-Stock, which is the intermediate class between Stock and Street Prepared. Of course, now that I'm stuck in SP, I should really turbo my car and get some coil-overs. That'd surprise the hell out of the competition next year.

A turbo would take you out of CSP. Looks good man, nice quick run. Don't give your camera man so much coffee before the runs next time though (quite shakey). I just ran one on Monday and shot my first in car video (which I still have to get out of the damn camera). I just tied down a tripod in the back hatch area and it worked great. Unfortunately my sister (her camera) forgot to charge the batteries before loaning me the camera, so I only got 1 2/3 of a run before it died. Too bad it was my first run, which was my slowest. That race looked like a rotary event, we had so many there! It was awesome! I'll post up the video when I get it done. I finished behind a MR2 and a highly prepped 7, and ahead of a couple other rotaries that were highly prepped and on racing rubber to boot. Awesome day at the races!

A turbo won't take me out of C/SP up here, Kentesu. It's a 4 point mod.

In Canada our rules for auto x allow quite a bit more modifications than what you get with the SCCA. Our rule are based on a points system. Each allowed modification is given a point value and the different catagories have a max point value. There are certain mods such as forced induction, bigger brakes and updating and back dating that are only allowed in SP.

Yep, makes for lots of different combos in a given class.
