moding the nikki carb? worth it?

Terrified.
I would send it out to get either a Sterling or Yaw carb. Its a modified Nikki built by people who've been modifying Nikki carbs for a long *** time. If you want to do it yourself then go for it, but it is worth it either way.

Yaw doesn't make them anymore except for their in house projects.
If you're modifying it yourself, it's not going to offer much of a power difference, but if you do your research and do it right the drivability difference and control you get with mechanical secondaries is definitely worth it. And assuming you don't have to pass emissions (which I'm guessing you don't since you asked this question) removing all the "extra" crap from the nikki will make it much easier to troubleshoot problems and change jets in the future.
Do you still have the rat's nest? the ACV? The shutter valve? Cats?
If you send it out to Sterling, you'll get a HUGE performance improvement, because he mods it in ways that the average person just can't.

The modded Nikki is not intended for emissions compliant rotaries. You can make it pass a visual, but you'll need a header exhaust to benifit from any performance carb.
