ATF treatment instructions

Hey Guys,
I feel like a real idiot owning a Rex and not knowing how to do the ATF treatment. I see it all the time on this forum and never paid attention. Could you direct me to a post on this forum or a web site where I might find full instructions on how to do this service? Thanks

Talking Here's the proper instructions

Get a container of ATF at your local Auto-Supply House. While you're there get a container of MMO, (Marvel Mystery Oil) Once back at your garage take the ATF and give it to your Mom as a "Surprise Gift," she'll probably not understand what the game is, but it's fun to keep Moms guessing about their Sons.

Connect a small diameter rubber hose to a container, then pull out a spark plug from each housing. Squirt or pour in your MMO, bump or turn the engine over a bit by hand, and squirt pour some more.

Leave 'er set for a time. How much? It's really up to you. Some wait 15 minutes, others will wait till the next day. I give 'er about an hour or two, enough time to do something else on the Seven....Put the plugs back it, and fire 'er up. Notice all flies, Skeeters, birds, neighbors, cows, relatives, take off for the hills....If you're smart you'll rev 'er for a couple of minutes, not high, no more than 4 grand, then take 'er out for a spin before the fire-trucks arrive.....

Hear me now, and believe me later....MMO is better than ATF...

Yes, you can do it as much as you want. But its a good idea to change spark plugs and oil after you do it.

I hope your 7 is being soaked right now!! Next weekend will be here before you know it. I'm not leaving till shes driving down the street

Talking Gather round the Camp-fire...

Now Howdy, Buckaroos, Cowboys, and all you lovely Ladies....

Ain't been postin' much 'cause it's round-up time in the 'ol garage....Roundin' up parts that is...

To the Tenderfeet out there. MMO was made to be burned. It's a flamable lubricant, and it won't hurt your cat, your dog, cow, bird, or any other mechanical or domestic partner....Go to "Search" and look for my thread under "MMO." There you'll get the full Monty...

Finally got all the other Family Cars done, so up goes 'ol Silver onto the jackstands. Degrease, Sandblast, Metal Etch, and I'm almost done with the POR-15. Great stuff, but my arms make me look like a Dalmation. Left front suspension is all apart. For those who don't know, you can't order Control Arms thru your local Auto-Supply Store....Dealer wants $169.00 apiece, British Victoria's Secret wants $179.00 apiece, but good 'ol Mazdatrix only wanted $123.00 apiece. And you can't replace the ball joint without replacing the whole arm, Wrench-hands....So I'm going with all new...New rotors, bearings, poly bushings, new gas struts, tie-rods, tie-rod ends, and the POR-15 treatment. Replace the leaky oil cooler with a 2nd gen one. Just intstalled new Racing Beat header and presilencer. Thinking seriously of going to a 2nd gen fuse system in place of the fusilble links. Did the clutch last Summer, and just installed a Mazdatrix driveshaft. New brake master cyl, and booster. New clutch slave and master last Summer. Just finished puttin' in gray leather 2nd gen seats. Got the racing pedals and short shifter in. My "Down Home on the Range" self designed cold air system. New radiator, and water pump. Got the Driving Lamp set-up, and lastly....I have a big collection of sandpaper, as Silver's gonna get a new paint-job....

So there y'all have it....Don't mean to ignore yuh, just that it's really good garage weather at present....

Mah best to y'all, and a tip of the 'ol greasy Stetson,
Denny,
From the 'ol abandoned corncrib, near Whiskey Flats Ohio....Now don't that jest Smoke yer butt....

MAN!! Thanks, Denny, I was beginning to feel guilty about the $$ fixing up the ol' rex, mine needs about the same stuff you're doing. Some folks on the forum are advising to move on and buy one in better shape.
Feel a bunch gooder now, thanks to you!!

Just out of curiosity Denny did you get the underside of your Rex sandblasted? Is it ok to remove the underside coating if you live in a state that doesn't put salt on the road in the winter?

Cool Under-Carriage

"Ol Silver was originally purchased in So. Cal. then moved to Texas where she spent most of her youth. Her owner moved to Wisconsin where I picked 'er up before she had a chance to be exposed to a Northern ?Winter and salt. Her under-Carriage is really very clean, with only surface rust starting to show. Her factory undercoat is only on her floor boards and in her fender wells. Over the years she's tried to wear away her undercoat with dirt and gravel, but the floor boards are still coated fairly well. The frame rails were not undercoated interestingly enough.

With my sandblaster I attacked any and all places that showed any indication of rust. I focused on all the rear suspension mounts where moisture and dirt like to hide and collect. Also blasted the rear axle. My POR-15 kit contains a rust disolving metal etching liquid which I put on with a narrow brush to the places needing it. Then brushed on the POR-15 paying particular attention to the suspension mounts, bin areas, frame rails and seams. I didn't blast any areas still covered with good heavy undercoat, (floorpan), as I didn't think it necessary, and it would certainly take a lot of work to get that area down to bare metal. I also put POR-15 on all the suspension members, links, and sway bars.

It's fun and satisfying to run your hoss about town and catch the stares and double-takes. It's three times more of a rush to know that you did the work yourself, and that most of it is hidden. Half the fund of owning a Seven is in the work and your mods....As the Beach Boys said, "...You don't know what I got...."

Denny,
From the 'ol abancdoned corncrib....
