About 10 years ago I had a 12A transmission behind my 13B w every bolt on na mod I could get my paws on. It was a 100k mile + used transmission which didn't last long at all. I was doing burnouts, doughnuts, slamming gears, etc... That type of driving gets old quick when you have to replace parts more often then driving. The last 12A transmission has lasted me 7 years + w normal driving and a few heavy foot actions here and there. Key to longevity I learned is to get on it once you are already moving, come out of the hole easy. Same goes for the 1st gen rearends.

Thanks for the feedback . I had my SA trans completely rebuilt and its connected to the T2 swapped engine. I have a 84 GSL rear in the car . I went this way as others had said it should last fine for regular and a little "spirited " driving which is really how I drive it .
The 1st gen project is going very slow due to time limitations so it will be a while before I actually get to drive it . I never really launch my '89 vert and like driving between 4000 and 6500 in 2nd and 3rd gear mostly. Hopefully I can do the same with the T2 SA, but just a little more exciting than the 3200 lb convertible.

It's going to be a heck more exciting...!! I had a 90 GTU n/a and my share of 1st gens that were all fun to drive. I've most recently sorted out my 87TII stock EFI set-up (w a bunch of goodies ) and it can be dangerously FAST at times. In a 1st gen it's going to be a blast...!!

My TII swapped car was 2,400lbs fully loaded with interior and a full tank of gas. It'll be heaps more fun than the FC Vert - no doubt about that. I'd still love a Vert for the nice weather days though.
What made you decide to go with an SA trans instead of swapping it for the TII trans? I'm just curious is all.

Main reason was I really like the SA interior , the shifter position and surround and I didnt want to mess with that which would've needed to be done if changeing the transmission. My thread is in the back pages of the Build threads now if you want to check it out https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...ct-car-935170/ My vert has a build thread in the 2nd gen Build section as well , https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...2007-a-650910/ The vert is awesome as a May to October car here.

In my 85 I swapped out the tail off a 12A transmission to a turboII transmission. Wasn't hard at all. Dropped right into place perfect. There were plenty of how to's by searching... Enough to get me started and pointed in the right direction, but always leaving something to figure out on your own. Overall I said "dammm that was easy" when I was done. I believe I wound up following a write up w a video how to put a 1st gen trans into a RX2 using the RX2 tail.

Unless you're running boost, a 12A will never really stress that transmission. A 13B NA may shorten
its life some but it will still last a good long while. Once you boost into 250+HP territory you can
cause damage easily. Still, its a matter of how you drive it. If you don't constantly do burnouts,
slam shift it, and otherwise abuse the gears it should be good for a lot of miles. I've seen a lot
of guys with boosted 12As and 13Bs go through trannys and rearends within weeks of getting
the motor running.
