Another project? No way!
Way!
The exchange went something like this...
Jeff20B: What're you in for?
Black83: *nervously* Engine and e-exhaust, sir.
Jeff20B: Oh please. I got too many projects. Buzz off.
Black83: Allow me to demonstrate. *cranks* Vroom! [smoke everywhere]
Jeff20B: Shut that sh off. Actually, that was kinda cool. huh huh huh huh huh
Black83: Am I in?
Jeff20B: Ahem *regains composure* You're in!

Lookin' good.. Clear corners, nice rims, tasteful bodykit and wing, I like it
What's going to be happenin' under the hood? With a car that looks that awesome, you've gotta put some power under there... 13b half-bridgey?
Dude, that's actually the first wing and bodykit I've ever liked on a 7. What type was it when it was still available, lol?

Yeah we're breaking Ray in slowly
But honestly, I feel the same way. Up until this morning I shuddered at the idea that if I got into track racing I'd have to put an air dam on. I always thought that body kits, airdams and wings were so ugly, but this one rx7 has changed my view. I *so* want one.
So I added the kit to my wishlist right under a vented CF hood from Fibremaz.
My wishlist just keeps getting more expensive all the time.

Wow, whiting out the background really helped. It does look pretty nice.
I don't know what type of wheels they are. 15" tires and uh maybe 40 series aspect ratio.
It currently has a stock smokin' 12A and a crappy muffler shop exhaust. It's not too loud and is passable but it's got an anoying drone at part throttle cruise (a pet peeve of mine) and idle is louder than it should be. Some of you might go for the sound, but it's not up to my standards.
I'll throw on a Racing Beat dual pipe 'street port' exhaust, most of which will be coming off my white '83. Only thing it needs is a 13B road race header since my car has a 12A in it. Not bad - only one left over 12A road race header when the project is finished.
You guys'll appreciate this. Its getting a streetported 4 port 13B with a Weber 48 IDA and some sort of light aftermarket flywheel. The engine was built by Hayes and never fired up. It's been sitting on my friend's shelf for the past few years. You know it's getting a quickie rebuild!! I can't install it as it sits. I've read too many horror stories and even saw the aftermath of one failed Hayes engine myself a couple months ago. Scary!
As for the body kit, I know nothing about it. It does look decent in real life though. Once some other projects get a little further along I can snap a few more pics of this beast. It's kinda sandwiched between four other vehicles at the moment and it's raining outside. (lovely Seattle weather).

"Ray, I must be getting old and feeble, but if I'm not mistaken, you're slowly coming off of your 'stock is the only way to go' mantra. Personally, I think there's room for a little bit of everything, as long as it reasonably tasteful."
Trochoid, one thing about us liberals is that we are opinionated, but not dogmatic. That is, we change our opinions on a regular basis, given good data.
And the body kit on Jeff's new project is nice and convincing data.
Jeff, what do you do with these projects when you're done? Drive them, park 'em in the museum, sell or what?

When I'm done? Projects never get done. First you're a liberal and now you're a crack smoker!

It's a friend's car that's here for work. He let me borrow his RB exhaust while I was gearing up for the 20B install in my white car, and I got a cool baja from him in trade for some other work. Plus I get to see (and correct) the inards of a Hayes engine and work on yet another 4 port 13B. That's all I ever build anymore is 4 port 13Bs. I get all the luck.
That '84 automatic with the 12A turbo rotor housings and other go-fast mods I worked on a few months ago was sold. He's keeping this black beauty though. I don't blame him. I took it for a quick spin around the block before parking in the driveway and it actually drove nicer and shifted better than my car. This car sort of raised the bar for my 20B project to live up to. Gotta get the shifter return spring and upgrade the suspension on my car, tighten the slop in the steering blah blah blah.

I'm feelin' the wing, too. I saw this one by Wings West, but I can't tell if it's the same: http://www.wingswest.com/products_de...page=1&id=1333

I'm also doing a 1st gen 20B project, REPU engine + tranny and a Cosmo engine + tranny. I just recently finished the wiring on the baja. When the 4 port 13B I built for the baja is fully broken in in my Cosmo, it's going in the baja. I often run out of daylight, and my garage isn't big enough for the big stuff like engine swaps.

Jeff, why is it you seem to get all of the 13B 4-port builds. I'm dying to do one here, but in the Midwest, everyone is either too cheap/no money or they are DIY and build it themselves. Looks like I'll have to do my own when it comes time for the TII swap and the 13B for the REPU.
Now if I can find someone to pay me to work on my own vehicles, I can have then done sooner.

Yeah, that's how it goes sometimes. I don't really know why I'm up to my ears in 4 port 13Bs around here. It's something that just sort of happened. I've never built a 2nd gen engine, never built a 6 port of any generation, and I've only built two 12As.
Some of the 4 port 13Bs have been the old US spec ones from the '70s while some others have been the nitrided R5 J-spec ones from the early '80s. The rest have been with Y 12A side plates and whatever pre-85 13B rotor housings and rotating assemblies I've had lying around. I have yet to build an engine with the lighter '86+ rotating assembly. I don't even know how to install the dual apex seal springs in 2mm engines. The 20B might be my first build with 2mm seals and the coolant seals in the side plates.

I know how you feel! 5 vehicles here, each one needing something, RX7 on top of the list (always...) Besides, I can't find a decent mechanic around here that knows diddly about her. I don't trust them...

Here's a Hayes (stage II) port. Meh. Kinda lumpy. I've done better. The owner likes them as they are so I ain't gonna touch 'em.
Rotary Engineering IDA manifold.
And the Weber. It's either a 48 or a 51. You tell me.
Yay!
Someone wrote 5251 on both rotors. I assume that's grams. They're from the '74-'85 1757/N304 weight family. Carbon apex seals too.

Multi-hole rear bearing.
This looks like an '81-'82 12A flywheel. The speed holes are to balance it for the heavier 13B rotating assembly. It uses a 215mm clutch. Will it hold the torque? Probably.
They drilled and welded the front counterweight as well.
Here's their attempt to mark the pulley ala Paul Yaw. What a dismal failure. I'm going to remark it correctly when I get around to it.
So that's where this project is at this point. Enjoy.
