So here was my posted question to AMSOIL's tech's.

~So here is my question. I own an 85 Mazda RX-7 which has a ROTARY engine. Now this is always a heated discussion on whether or not synthetic oils burn as well as petroleum based oils. Now a rotary engine naturally HAS to burn oil, so what I am wondering is since AMSOIL is no ordinary synthetic, are their any tests or facts to prove or show that amsoil will burn just a clean as a petroleum based oil, or if it won't. I am hoping I can get some solid facts from someone. Thanks ~Gavin~

We ran tests in real rotary powered vehicles years back and have had excellent success with our AMSOIL Synthetic 10W40 High Performance Motor Oil (AMO).

Haha a couple minutes later and i knew i was going to get this reponse. I e-mailed them back and told them that people were going to ask this same question. i told them to e-mail me back with the testing results of their "real rotary powered vehicles "

Check with Racing Beat. They currently endorse Royal Purple, but previously sold Amsoil and did some tests which might be what the Amsoil people are referring to.

orry, none of the test data was published, as they were field studies done simply to see if any of the original concerns existed. The test results we publish are repeatable ASTM tests that any lab can reproduce. Field studies can vary because of the variables in the test equipment. However, if the vehicle in question is mechanically sound, our product works very well. We would not advocate the use of our product in applications where it didn’t perform as required. We would have little to gain by doing that.

AMSOIL is a great oil company. They stand by there product 110%. They make really good oil filters, too.

I agree, Amsoil is probobly the best oil company out there. Those who use it swear by it. I work at an oil change place, and the police cars use Amsoil. They change the filter at 10,000 miles and add a quart of oil, then run for another 10,000 before changing their oil, and it comes out looking like most oil does at 3000 miles.

That said, with the amount of oil rotaries eat, it wouldnt be cost effective to use Amsoil.

I spent some time talking to the Royal Purple rep @ seven stock this year who has personally run RP in his 12a BP Rx3 GT-3 racecar with phenominal results. 10 degree Lower oil temperature and very good bearing life. He's run them in street cars too with no probs.

Has anyone ever seen a rotary engine failure solely due to using synthetic oil?

I've used Amsoil 75-90W gear oil in my rotary car trannies and rearends for several years and can heartily recommend it.
I do not use Amsoil in my rotary engines simply because of the cost, but I have been running it in my Fiesta (not Festiva!) and have noticed a slight drop in oil consumption, even though the Fiesta (not Festiva!) doesn't burn an appreciable amount of oil to begin with. I think this is due to less thermal burn-off due to the Amsoil having a higher burnoff temperature. Also, I could swear it feels just a little more powerful, and on a car like the Fiesta (not Festiva!) that originally had a whopping 65 hp, even a small increase is pretty noticeable.
I have also used Amsoil "Power Foam" for a number of years to both clean carbs and decarbonize engines, both rotary and piston.
The only downside to Amsoil products is their stupid Multi-Level Marketing a la Amway.
But some stores carry their products, I buy my Power Foam at a gun shop, seems it does a real good job of dissolving plastic wad fouling from shotgun barrels!

WG, your lower oil consumption in your Festiva is cause theres no light molecules to boil off unlike dino oil.

And this is a downside... how? Seems pretty intelligent on their part to me. Rather than spend so much in advertising, pass some cash down to the customers who enjoy their products.

Like it or not, MLMs will become more and more popular as time goes on. And no, I'm not associated with Amsoil or Amway... so dont even go there.

I'm about 99% sure the formula mazdas all run synthetic oil, and they're carbed 13Bs.

I actually dont buy it, or at least I havent yet. But if I was going to, I can get it at cost from work, I work at an oil change and tire place. There are numerous local stores that carry it as well.

And how are there availability issues if you can order it online??? Seems like that would make it pretty much available to virtually anywhere in North America.

One of the local NAPA stores is an AMSOIL dealer. Look further out on horizon Kemosabe.

Instead of finding a store that sells it simply find a person who deals it in the area. That way you can go to him, find what you, order what you want, and it's cheap. My dealer is the 2nd largest in the state and he sells heaploads of this stuff with basically everything on hand.
