Lighter?!?!?!? How much do you want this alt of yours to weigh exactly?

Let me find the link, they sell ultra light ones for drag/race aps, about $1500 all precision machined. Can't wait till you buy one and let us know how they are.......

Removing the alt would be better. OOOH Just jump start it and run the car off the alt. That would be better yet! Seriously, an alternator doesnt weigh that much. You could buy a really small battery (batcap 400) and it would be totally fine for a race car. Also would most likely be a better gain and only costs ~350 compared to 1500

racing application- Going without an alt. is not an option. Spending $1500 on one is not an option either. Looking for something in between?

Gotta be more effective weight reduction methods than trying to pare down the weight of your alternator! Any reason why you are specifically looking at that component?

I agree you could shave tons more wieght off with stuff like removing body tar, pointless things: Rear windshield wiper, rear antenna, all emissions, cold engine injection stuff (not mostly for wieght but cleans engine bay up), remove air pump, Remove air conditioning, front windshield wiper resivoir if equipped etc etc..

Or by simply skipping breakfast and getting an enema the day of the race.

$350 for a stock alternator is a rip. Just scan the yellow pages for a alternator/ starter rebuild facility. Confirm that they rebuild them in-house rather than simply buying them wholesale from a rebuilder. That way you cut out the middle man and get the best price + warranty. Cost is typically under $150.
