alternator

ok now I'm pretty sure that my alternator is dying but Iwant some more input. When I'm driving I'm only registering about 12.5 volts. When I stop to turn or stop sign, etc. it drops to 11 volts or below. Just give me some input on this.

edit: forgot to mention I'm last time I had it tested I was highest of 13.8 volts and 30 amps.

I just went through a few bouts with the alt and battery. The main problem ended up being the ground wire on the battery. Get the battery and alt tested. If they both are good then you know to look at the wiring mainly the ground. The guys that helped me in my post were right on. It sounds like a simliar problem the voltage is dropping the more power is used.

well I've come to the conclusion, well I've known the alt is dead but I wanted to see some other helpful guidelines, I'll replace the grounds soon, but first I need a clutch......desperately lol.

try to find an s5 in the junker, rip the alt out of there, do a little modding of the wiring, get a new adaptor and slap that bitch on, made a world of difference in my 85 gsl

or just find an s4 and rip the one out of that, no modifying to be done, and around 10-15 amp gain, it's better to have more than not enough...
i've gone through like three of these in the last year
