Question An alternative to the RB Carb hat perhaps

So i was looking at the extensive products list that RB has to offer and was looking into something for my intake. The RB "Power Pulse" Carb Hat/ Breather.

For awhile i've had plans to make this with the stock hat on my 12A. I was going to cut the side walls all around the carb hat and drilll a hole on the carb hat's lid and get a longer bolt to attatch it to the carb. My plans changed slightly today while i was speculating doing the modification. Instead i did this.

Feedback would be appreciated.

BTW if you were reading my other thread on my carb being a $&%...it's running top notch now. Did some stuff and it runs WAY beter than before. I had a clogged primary jet...a can of Carb Cleaner and 5 minutes later =

While cutting holes to reduce whatever restriction the snorkle may pose, you have also increased the temperature of the intake air. The small holes are of little value, the 1 large hole will simply allow the dirt to collect in one spot on the filter. If I were to do something similiar, I'd take a hole saw and make a series of evenly spaced holes all the way around in as large of a diameter that would fit.

Another option is cut large, wide rectangles, leaving only enough of the sides for the 4 snap clips.

I couldn't find my hole-saws btw. i was planning on doing what trochoid said but alas...no hole-saw. =/

Trying, then thinking of better ways to do a mod is always a good thing. You get an A for effort, mental anyways.

Before you cut all of it out, try leaving legs so you can still use the clips for the lid. That will give a better seal between the air cleaner and the filter and hold the lid tight in case the wing nut loosens.

I agree on the legs thing. I'll cut out the space in between the clip parts and also get a longer bolt or just extend the existing bolt with a ...double-sided, threaded, female femal coupler? haha not sure on the terminology but you get the point.

Thanks for the insight Trochoid, you always have great ideas. Not to mention a killer car.

An even crazier idea came to mind while i was pondering of the carb hat...something along the lines of a carb hat with a fogger system around the filter that releases NOS to cool the incoming air.. HAHA yeah i know....very expensive to run that, due to the amounts of NOS you would have to use, and a very hard system to fabricate as well

Oh well...dreams dreams..

Wet dreams, you don't want to use a dry system on a rotary, lol.

Nitrous Oxide...

Wet and Dry systems.

Dry system relies on the engine's fuel system to add fuel to the NO2.
Wet system has an additional fuel injector or mixes the fuel with the NO2 for injection.

'twas a joke...

Naa, I just shelled out the dough for the RB air box. I like it alot actually. I used it on the FB for a little while and now I have it on the SA. The stock box on the SA is freakin heavy.

How much of an improvement do you thnk the RB box provides? I've heard one of the pluses to it is that it makes the carb have a throatier sound??

On my FB it did have a nice meaty sound to it. I don't really hear it so much in the SA but my carb needs rebuilt so we'll see. I don't think the difference is real noticable performance wise but I'm sure it does help over the stock box

Ahhh i see. Well i will modify my air box to RB style and see how it is.

Cut off the side walls on the box, except the clips and redrill a hole in the carb lid to pass the bolt through and attatch it with the butterfly nut.
