Alrighty, tell me what this thing in my engine does...

Okay, I'm starting to get the hang of this rotory/carb thing. I am still figuring out different parts of the engine, though.

My question...
What is the extra antifreeze resivior for that is mounted on the firewall? It's the one that says to add 90% subzero fluid (I think I'm going to call it that from now on...sounds cooler) and 10% water, and has some hoses coming out of it. Very small.
My hoses coming out of this resivior are so old that you can hear the "crackle" when you bend them a lot.

Any ideas on what this does?

It shoots the antifreeze into the carb while you're cranking and the engine is below freezing. It prevents the carb, intake, and engine from icing up.

It's usually inoperative, most people remove it, and in fact there was a Mazda TSB (for the 2nd-gens at least) that said to disable/remove it!

I left mine on... it keeps the engine bay nice and cluttered

I'm getting the impression that these things are useless. I went out to the garage to check mine out, and the thing has been unplugged for God knows how long. Maybe that's why my car is a little tempermental on cold winter mornings. How can I check to see if the thing really works?

Would the MMO keep the carb from freezing?

You mean you DON'T drink the stuff Pele? It'll lube your insides up all good and make your body run like new

Okay, that sounded funnier when I first thought it up...

But I do keep an old empty bottle or two lying around the garage to keep it smelling minty fresh, lol

At the Spring 2003 Entire forum meet, I'll bring a couple bottles washed out and filled with juice or something, just to mess with people.

HEY!!! If it's after April, I'll be 21!

MMO is the mechanic's mouthwash.

Antisieze is the mechanic's toothpaste, no wait, that's the jeweler's rouge/valve grinding compound/carwax. I got it: Westley's Bleche White!

There's gotta be a list of these somewhere.

80W90 is the mechanic's mole's asses.
You mean molases?

Brake cleaner is the mechanic's Scalpicin.
Huh? Wassat?

Liquid glove is the mechanic's body lotion.
Never used liquid Glove. What is it?

Dikes/diagonal cutters are the mechanic's nail trimmers.
Actually, I do that regularly.

Nuts are edible.
Too much info. I really don't think so.

Heim joints prevent choking (if you lick them properly).
Whats a Heim Joint?

Anybody got a good one for orange juice?
New type coolant. Dex-Cool or whatever. It's used in a lotta GM's and comes OEM for many cars. Anyone know if it's good the the rotary or just stick with green?

When you check out a car, do you ever taste the oil? I've tasted it once, but my friend has developed an ability to tell if the car has penzoil in it, just from taste alone. It's more bitter than castrol.

Yeah, molases.

Brake cleaner has a tendency to clean stuff real well. I figured it would work better on the scalp than a semi popular scalp medication known as scalpicin.

Go to an auto parts store and ask if they have liquid glove.

Nuts like walnuts, lug nuts. Yum!

A heim joint is similar to a spherical rod end I think. Somebody who knows suspension will be able to answer your question.

Ah yes, Dexcool.
