Air filter choices.
Would I be better off buying a K&N stock replacement filter, and keeping it in the stock housing, and possibly extending the snorkel to outside the engine bay, or buying a open element filter assembly and doing away with the stock housing.
This

I had a bonez racing set up basically a k&n filter with a extension and new top hat thats smaller to allow air to be sucked from the top. I also modified the factory air box by cutting off the sides. that set up worked really well don't know if it helped in power really but you could most definatly hear the difference under throttle.

^^I was thinking about that too.
I guess I'll just order a K&N and buy some sort of corrugated piping from a hardware store to extend the intake.Might do what others do, and cut a hole on my radiator shroud, to bring some cold air into the intake.

Hmmm...that product looks usefull...but I'd rather fab one for free...and also that RX-7 with the blue and yellow stripes near the site logo is a photo chop that I did...how did they get it?
Look here's the original.
Tell me they didn't steal it.

The rope in the pic is because i have my hoses tied off the fender while coating the engine bay
i fabbed this up, i plan on modifying the headlight bucket to get cold air in, i cant see how it can hurt, i do notice a huge sound difference and a possible throttle response, not sure being i was tuning my carb when i put it on, so it could have been adjusting the carb. Some people will say racing beat did a lot of research on there design for air flow, to a degree that is true but sucking heat right off the header cant be great either. I made mine out of aluminum and made a aluminum heat shield and it pulls a lot of heat out.

It's too bad ISCRacing doesn't make their airbox anymore. It's the one I've got. I never liked the look of the RB one, but the open-air style I always found was nice.

I'd say get the RB one. It's especially great if you have a Sterling with Mech Secs.. when you open it up you *really* hear it through the carb, it's a cool sound.
