Air cleaner questions

Wo what is the purpose of the tubing that goes from the thermal reactor to the air cleaner. Is that something that just gets deleted with an emissions delete or something? Also what is the purpose of the little door that is in the snorkel my dad seems to think that the door closing could be a reason for my sputtering and stalling issue.

The tubing from the thermal reactor to the air cleaner helps to draw warm air into your carburetor. Very useful on cold days to prevent your carb from freezing up .. especially in Michigan winters.

The door or flap in the snorkel opens and closes to direct warm air (from the thermal reactor) or cold air (ambient temperature) into your Nikki.

There's no need. The flap is thermostatically controlled, so when the engine is warmed up, the air won't be pulled from the thermal reactor, only from the forward part of the snorkel (cooler air).

The system is designed to do both functions, and there really isn't a huge gain from deleting it.

Pull it and try. It just slips off. BUT - hang on to it for (1) the chance you are not happy with the result (usually its effectiveness is when first running) and (2) in case the NEXT owner wants it! NLA from Mazda now, BTW-

Depends on how late into the season you want to drive your car. October/November can have some pretty damp, cold days .. especially around the Great Lakes.

You can try disconnecting the pipe and wiring open the flapper door. If you don't notice any improvement in stuttering or stalling, then just reverse procedures and put it back to stock.

Definitely what Stu said, I keep everything I take off for the next owner, because more and more parts go NLA.

There's honestly no benefit in removing it. Its there to help the engine so I see no need to remove it.

It just helps on cold days to feed warm air into the carb, that being said that thermal reactor takes a good 2-3 mins to get hot , it is also not a sealed line, it sucks in ambient air that gets warmed up by the reactor, any generic tube will work . IMO it's a usless part unless you live in bellow freezing areas..
FYI our studdering is caused by either a vac leak, uneven fule delivery / ignition .
