Question Ventilation controls near door?

Hey Guys

Just picked up an 87 n/a coupe and have a quick question. In playing with a few things and looking things over I noticed some type of slider or vent control on the lower side of the dash near the door. What exactly are they for?

Thanks
PK

on the canadian models they had what are called "vents" alo tof old cars used to ahve them it is just a vetn to teh outside ( under where the wipers are) this blows cool air on you instead of air coming throug the whole heater system which will still warm hotter then ambient even on the cool setting. its like ghetto air conditioning lol. neat feature if yr ac doenst work

The slider controls a door which controls airflow out of the duct that the big arrow is pointing to. That duct sends the air out of the grill in the top of the door skin, which the small arrow is pointing to.

I suggest you keep it closed until at least May.
